I haven't been able to fully test it yet but changing the settings works for me. I'm not sure about installing the System Menu but I can do my own tests later. I was just hoping to get some others to test it and see if there's anything that doesn't work right.
Custom HugoGX (no replies)

Hey all, just wondering if anyone would like to test out a custom HugoGX I've been working on the past couple of days. I originally just wanted to get it compiled with the new libogc libraries, but ended up fixing a bunch of junk that I thought would make it more useable for me.

Fixes:
- updated libfat, so you can run it off your HCSD cards, and it seems to read USB well enough as well (not well tested).
- had to fix something in the sound generation callback code to fix a crash, seemed like a trivial change, and sound is still kind of crappy and slower than the original console (not my forte...)
- updated the controller timeouts to 180 seconds from 60 (the time until an inactive wiimote turns off)
- added automatic saving and loading of save data, which probably needs some actual testing, but works fine for me. Going to the menu writes the savedata, so don't forget to do that.
- rapid fire now works fine, and I've remapped the button layout on the classic controller to be more what I'm used to (rapid fire is mapped to X and A, as you'd expect).

Bugs?
- In doing this, powering off with any power button seems to have been broken, and just does nothing at all. You'll need to quit the program to shutdown. I tinkered around with this for a bit, but wasn't really confident in my ability to make sure everything was de-initialized properly...

Here's a link, give it a go, please don't report any long outstanding bugs because I'm totally aware of them and the fact that I won't be able to fix them :P

Link to the file (not the dropbox website) --> [www.dropbox.com]

testing gravitii control styles (12 replies)

Hello, I am in need of some people to try out, and give me feedback my current choices for the control styles in my game, Gravitii. you can download the version made specificly for this task here
Here are my current control styles:
A button:
Start off by pressing and holding the A button somewhere near the middle of the screen. As you hold A, move the pointer, and as you do this the power and direction of your shot will change. Think of this style like a slingshot, where the starting position is where you pressed the A button, when you move the pointer after that it is like you are moving projectile relative to the starting position. This means that the farther the pointer is away from the starting position, the stronger the shot. The direction is harder to describe, but it fits in with the slingshot analogy.

B button:
This button is the same as A, but the direction is the opposite. This means that the angle abstraction in the A button, is turned into more of a drag, which may be easier to learn, and also to play with.

1 button:
This button is the same as B, but it uses the starting position of the ball instead of where you hit the button.

As you can probably tell, I'm not very good at describing these, but you should be able to figure it out, they aren't too hard. Anyways, I need help deciding on, and tweaking these current control styles. If you have any comments (One style is too hard, another is too easy, or you have a new idea) please comment. Also, if you have a better way to describe any of these styles please post them also.

EDIT: Fixed download link

Newo Shooter - wii homebrew game (17 replies)

So After 3 months or so of hacking away at C, I finally have something I think is a mostly complete as a game. I know there are still stuff I need to add but I'm posting it here to somewhat get a feel of the direction I need to go so I can finish it in 2 months time. I am going for a more arcade style centipede feel to the game so I'm not going to try and replicate EVERY feature because I don't have the time nor the math skills to get them working fast enough on the wii.

Here is what i need you to beta/alpha test;

1. The feel of the flying and aiming. Is it passable? Or do I need to add some momentum or swing to it. I'm not trying to be perfect and I'm not really going to implement a boost and air break feature (unless i really have to).

2. The scoring system. I don't know if bigger number are more appealing to players.

3. How easy it is for causal players and noobs to play.

4. How do you feel about the level length? are they too short or too long?

5. (Optional) The Lua stage scripting engine (I need to expand the API because right now it is pretty simple, most people can skip this)

You can download it from the wiki; [wiibrew.org]

here is a recent video posted by Cid
[www.youtube.com]

As far as the code is concerned it never crashes unless you remove the SD card after the game is loaded. It reads the level scripts out of the game directory at the start of each stage. And if you edit the scripts, you have to restart the game to get them to load (i got a fix for this but it is not implemented yet). it will show a crash error and line number message of you load a bad script. You presently cannot add a new stage, just edit one the existing ones. Other than that it is pretty stable.

It requires the assets from the original game (the demo version is included in the above package) and isn't quite complete, there's a few diseases and scenarios missing. It's definitely playable, although this build has audio disabled until I can free up about 20MB of memory somewhere.

Just dump the files onto your SD card as is (the CorsixTH dir must be in the root).

gb4gb, now working! (10 replies)

It's a half year later after this post: [forum.wiibrew.org]

But I picked it up again. And now I have my own wii to test on.

I know the name is very silly, and I should name it something like "gb4wii" or something.

But it's my gameboy emulator. Which has as main highlights:
-Supports Gameboy, Gameboy color and SuperGameboy games.
-Runs up to 4 gameboys side by side!
-Gameboy 1 and 2 are linked with a link cable, so are gameboy 3 and 4.
-This linking works for pokemon trading!

The UI is a bit tricky right now, the Wiimote that clicks on the "load ROM" button is the one associated with that ROM. So if you want to play pokemon red, and pokemon blue at the same time, linked. Then do the following:
-Have wiimote 1 click "load ROM" and select pokemon red.
-Have wiimote 2 click "load ROM" and select pokemon blue.
-Click on "run emulation" with any of the wiimotes.

Download: [daid2.mine.nu]

Just a huge list of 'problems':
-Zelda: Link's awakening seems to be dog slow.
-Speed for other games is to high.
-Supergameboy support isn't perfect, but works ok for pokemon.
-Kirby's dreamland 2 doesn't do anything.
-Sound sometimes has a high pitch in it which should be there.
-Graphics in zelda intro and ninja gaiden shadow (AKA Shadow Warrior, AKA Ninja Ryuukenden) are messed up at a few places.
-No scaling options.
-No button config options.
-No other controller support then wiimote.
-Saves to the same location as the ROM is loaded from.

It isn't finished yet, but posting it here to catch the early bugs and get a few tips about what I should add.

commandeerMii - take controll of miis (8 replies)

This is a program that gets your wii's mac address, then reads all the miis on your wii and changes the mac address field in them to match your mac. the end result is ( hopefully ) that you can download a mii from the checkmiiout channel or copy one from a different wii via wiimote and be able to edit it on your own wii.

Obviously you are in the testing area. It would be wise to have a nand backup before using this.
If my calculating is wrong, it will break all your Miis and you will not be able to edit any of them!! If it corrupts them, then all game save data that depends on that mii may be broken/lost!!

im not 100% sure about the mac stored in the Miis. And I have not done any RE of the system menu/mii channel. But from looking at the Miis in my wiis, it is calculated by this formula...

u8 mac[ 6 ] = ...get mac address from wii...;
u32 macForMiis = ( ( mac[ 0 ] + mac[ 1 ] + mac[ 2 ] ) << 24 ) | ( mac[ 3 ] << 16 ) | ( mac[ 4 ] << 8 ) | mac[ 5 ];

im not sure what the mii channel does in the case of the first 3 bytes, but this is working ok for the 3 different wiis ive used it on. if somebody knows differently, please let me know. i have added a little check in there, so if it doesnt see any existing miis with the mac calculated with the above code, it will look for 2 miis who's last 3 bytes match the one from the wii and use that. It should make it a bit less likely to clobber all your miis.

Moderator Edit: The link is broken.
Unnofficial AnyRegion Changer 1.2 and AnyTitle Deleter 1.1 (12 replies)

Well I know I just made a topic in the Ideas, requests section, but I thought I would see what I can do with the source of these two apps.
What I did was take "RuntimeIOSPatch.c" from Dop-Mii [iospatch.c from FTPii] and incorporate it into these two apps. (I don't know if it will do anything exactly but I thought it seemed like it would make it work.) Looking at that code it adds isfs_permissions_patch and es_identify_patch which are both needed by ARC and ATD. I believe that's how Dop-Mii works and I took that and [I think] implemented it into ARC and ATD. I also changed ARC so that it does not install 3.2, but rather 4.2. I've also removed the Shop country code because the Shop Channel doesn't allow region switching anymore (it does but not without deleting your account). I've also included the [modified] source code for anyone to see (although I didn't change that much :P ).

I cannot use "my" Wii to test these (I'm "not allowed" to have homebrew on there) so I was hoping someone would test for me. I am not a coder although I do understand some of what I see in the source for these apps so I don't believe these versions are any more dangerous that the originals, but be aware that these apps can be dangerous and should probably be tested by users with BootMii as boot2 and a NAND backup. Also, I do understand how the Wii works (basically) so I am fairly sure that installing System Menu 4.2 (and IOS70) with ARC will work but I will test that myself if I get the chance.

In short, I have no idea exactly what I did, but I believe I did everything well enough so that the apps should work without problems.
Anyways, without further ado:

<s>AnyTitle_Deleter_v1.1_TEST.rar</s>

<s>AnyRegion_Changer_v1.2_TEST.rar</s>

<s>Updated the apps again, hopefully works now :P 9/11/10 6:27pm (PDT)</s>
See last post in this topic.

Wii gameboy emulator test drive... (4 replies)

I've been working a bit on a gameboy emulator. It's far from perfect, but it starts to run games. However, I only tested it on my PC so far. And the few tests I did on the wii where unsuccessful, it kept crashing before it showed anything.

Now a good night sleep made me review my own code, and I found a few stupid mistakes. However, I currently no longer have access to a wii during the week days. So I cannot test it. Someone cares to give it a spin? I give it about 80% chance of not showing anything, but still, it might just work.

You don't need to add any roms for a quick test, it should show a dark blue window and a wii cursor if it works. The A or B button while pointing at the window should open a dropdown menu allowing you to select different options like loading a ROM. If it does that then I give it a big chance of actually loading roms and running them.

In the end it should look something like this: [daid2.mine.nu] as every wiimote can load it's own rom.

Zipfile: [daid2.mine.nu]
Sources: [daid2.mine.nu]

WiiSCU 0.24 (6 replies)

With the recent update to 4.3, a new Shop Channel was introduced, and my attention was drawn to the fact that apparently the only currently working Shop Channel updater is dop-SHOP, which for some reason requires a patched IOS to work. So I made a little edit to WiiSCU that I think should allow it to install any version of Shop Channel between v19 (current) and v25 (to allow for future compatibility without updating), as apparently WiiSCU 0.22 doesn't work right when it tries to get latest Shop Channel, and 0.23 is now outdated as it was coded to use v18 of Shop Channel. Now I would like someone to test v0.24 for me, if anyone would be up for it.

Here's a download link: [www.mediafire.com]

Ncard auto updating wii gamercards (7 replies)

I along with chris have been working on a gamercard system for the wii. This is actually up and running. I need some beta testers to help build up a title database. This is a homebrew client that ties into a site/database on a server. The client logs in, reads your game play logs and uploads that to your account on the server. The server constructs a gamercard for you. The card is functionally equivalent to PSN cards.

The reason we need testers is that the images are pulled from giantbomb using their API. Giant bomb needs exact game names to get the correct box art. Unfortunately the game ids on the wii message board are not always full names. We are building up a user generated database of game names that links to the wii short names. There is currently a private beta running and hundreds of games have been added to the translation database covering most of the most popular games. Upon running the client, users are able to log on to the website and fix any games that didn't auto match.

We need more people to cover more of the wii library before the beta opens up. Reply in this thread and I will PM you instructions and the download link.

the gamercards are made on messageboardchampion.com and you will need to make an account there and use that username and password to log the client in.

e.g. my gamer card:

Alien Puzzle Wii - Final Stages of Testing - Updated 3/25/10! (2 replies)

Alien Puzzle Wii

Created By: GEMISIS

I'm currently working on a port of my game Alien Puzzle (originally for the Nintendo DS) to the Nintendo Wii. It's nearly complete, with graphics being one of the last parts for the first release (I am trying to make it look a bit neater). Since everything else for the first version is pretty much done, I thought I would go ahead and start gathering beta testers for it.

The game concept is simple: You play as an alien, and you have to go through different mazes and collect as many gems as possible, then make it to the end of the level. The only problem: you can't stop moving once you've started. If you hit a wall, you will bounce off of it. If you hit a bomb, you lose a life. Lose all three lives and it's game over. If you beat the level, you can take your score on with you to the next level.

Features of this game include the following:

-A built in, behind the scenes, mp3 player (either from a sd card or flash drive with the music in a folder called mp3 or mp3s)
-The ability to create your own levels (level creator will be released with the first official release of the game)
-The ability to add custom backgrounds to your levels
-High Score table (with saving)
-Optional Motion Controls (can be enabled/disabled by pressing A at the main menu)
-Simple beeping sounds from the wii remote for certain things (can be enabled/disabled by pressing B at the main menu)
-A Dlc Shop with free download-able levels (can be accessed by pressing 1 at the main menu). Currently there are only two levels for download, with plans to add tons more

Known Glitches:

-<s>Can only display up to 13 levels at once (from level browser and from the dlc list). This is currently being fixed, and is not considered a huge problem to me as it's not going to effect the gameplay.</s> This was fixed in the second testing release

<s>If you are interested in testing, please email me and I will give you the demo to test. I have a short post about the game here which talks a little bit about the level creation process, and includes a picture from one of the in game levels. My email is GEMISIS@live.com.</s>

To make things easier, here is the demo, please post all bugs in comments below: download

The controls for the game (if you have the demo) are as follows:

*Please note that the Wii remote is held on it's side EXCEPT for when inputting text

At the menu:

-Left to go to the next selection
-Right to go to the previous selection
-2 to select a level
-1 to go to the Dlc Store (Requires a connection to the internet)
-A to enable/Disable Motion Controls (disabled by default)
-B to enable/Disable the Wii Remote speaker (enabled by default)

In a level:

-Left to move Down
-Right to move Up
-Up to move Left
-Down to move Right
-Plus to pause
-B to quit (when paused)
-If motion controls are enabled, simply tilt the controller in the direction you wish to move (while still holding it sideways)

When at an input screen:

-Point at the letter you want and press A to select it
-Minus to erase the last letter
-Plus to continue

When viewing the highscore table:

-2 To continue

When at the Dlc Shop:

-Left to go to the next selection
-Right to go to the previous selection
-2 to select a dlc to download
-1 to return to the main menu screen

3/17/10:
The demo was updated to include a few new features:

-Dlc shop shows if you download a new one, update a previous one, or there is no newer version of the level
-Fixed some video glitches
-14 Level display limit was taken off for both the Dlc Shop and the level browser

also, a new level was uploaded today, and the levels that were included were also put onto the dlc shop. The new level is in the shape of an awfully put together penguin.

3/20/10
The demo was updated to include a few new features and bug fixes:

-Dlc shop now shows a message while loading the dlc list
-Fixed a bug in which a downloaded level would not load
-Dlc shop bug fixes with downloading

Also, 2 more levels were uploaded to the dlc shop. The first one is a remake of one of the original levels from the Nintendo DS version of the game, and the other is a giant laser. Remember, to access the dlc shop, you must connect your wii to the internet, then press 1 at the main menu. :)

3/24/10
The newest version contains major updates and bug fixes. Update wise, there has been enormous progress:

-New menu graphics!!
-Dlc shop now includes a level preview
-Level Browser now includes a level preview
-Added support for sticky walls
-Added support for bouncy walls. These can be jumped over once a certain speed is achieved.
-Added MULTIPLAYER support
-Added Multiplayer level section to level select
-Added Multiplayer level Dlc section
-Levels can now be created in parts, meaning that in order to complete the whole level, you have to complete mini parts (currently only supports up to 99 level parts)
-A documentation was created for creating levels, game info, and more! (see below)
-The level creation tools were released as well! (see below)

Also, a multiplayer map was added, along with 4 other new single player levels: a car shaped level, a world shaped level, a bus shaped level, and a level where you have to make lots of choices. As usual, these are available via the dlc shop.

The documentation and level creation tools can be accessed here
Download link is the same as before download

EDIT 3/24/10 (again):

Updated again, this time to include a bit less sensitive collisions :)

3/25/10

Some more bug fixes:

-Fixed a weird bug that was happening when going from page to page in the level select menu.

Priiloader - 2 harmless tests (no replies)

ok there are a few things i need to know/get tested. these are harmless tests (except maybe 2 if you dont have any other way of navigation :P ). both dols are priiloader itself (but modified) and not the installers. this is why it shouldn't harm your wii :)

Test 1 (aka priiloader_crasher_HAXX.dol) :
this test is priiloader that crashes itself (youll only see a black screen) but makes it possible to load back to HBC. now i know it should always be able to do it if you load the dol from HBC but not if its the first dol getting loaded like priiloader does (or anything that doesn't load the stub before booting a dol). Priiloader will overwrite the HBC reload stub anyway.

this test needs to be run by 2 wii's (or 1 wii if you can have HBC < 1.0.5 for a minute.)
- a Wii that still has the old HBC ( < 1.0.5) and still has HAXX as title ID. it doesn't matter if JODI is there too (hell, load the dol from JODI and press reset, if it loads HAXX its sure to work :P )
- a Wii that only has JODI as HBC title ID (>= 1.0.5)
the code will use HAXX if its found for several reasons, that is why i need it tested where Haxx is installed and where HAXX isn't installed and JODI is only found

Test 2 (priiloader_test2.dol) :
this is maybe the toughest test cause its specific
this is a test for wii's that have no wiimote synced to them and needs a wii with no wiimote synced (im talking no known wiimote for the wii, and not a wiimote that is turned off; IF that would make a difference...) so sync it somewhere else if you can and boot this dol using a GC controller or something
note: please disable autoboot settings before running the dol. we need to be in the priiloader menu for this

once the dol is loaded, wait 15 seconds and press reset (make that 20 to be sure, you probably will be counting faster then a real second :P )
if the reset boots system menu ( im guessing the "system menu is corrupted" will pop up all borgled, dont worry. that happens if you boot system menu from ios36, which priiloader was using since you loaded it trough HBC) then that is good to go :)

ALSO, if you feel like it and meet the requirements:
run test2 (no need to have no synced wiimotes, this is HBC related. not the reset button stuff) on a wii that only has HAXX installed and try to load HBC from priiloader menu
it *should* work, but extra testing shouldn't hurt right? :)

link : http://www.nyleveia.com/daco/priiloader_tests.zip

Insert SD Card with Homebrew Card Manager (a.k.a. HCM) file on root of card.
2. Windows detects autorun.inf and runs HCM.exe
3. Homebrew Card Manager app opens

It serves as a launcher for pc utilities that are newbie-friendly, apps that are useful for homebrew sd cards!

FAQ

Q: Sounds stupid! Why would I need it?
A: If it sounds so stupid then why do you need to use it?

Q: It seems pretty limited in functionality, can you add more?
A: Well, I can't add that much; but you can help: See Contribute below.

Q: Exactly what does it do?
A: Quoting my self from a post to this topic

Quote
hunterm
Yes it does launch apps, but I wanted to make a homebrew-focused one, and I wanted it to be easier for app developers to make pc utils. It would be different, because you could make an PC util app and just add it in. I wanted it to be easier for newbies to the homebrew world to manage homebrew-used sd cards, developers just need to make easy to use apps.

Contribute

A way you can contribute is by creating newbie-friendly applications to use on PCs with sd cards.
Simple.

To test PM me with the subject "HCM tester request"
I will post a list of testers to page under my username on the wiki
To report bugs PM me with the subject "HCM bug found"
Once this has been approved bug free by ALL testers (i will send out an PM with the subject "HCM feedback") I will release this into the WiiBrew wiki.

One last thing:
Please, please, please DO NAUT LEAK.

Discuss.

UPDATE: added a description of app
