Rendered Wii Games

One time when I put Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Brawl in my wii it rendered them unplayable. I tried removing all of the unauthorized software like the homebrew channel and I ordered a new copy of each game. I put both of them in my wii and it rendered it unplayable again. Does anyone know specifically what the causes are of it doing that and if there is something I can do to make it stop rendering my games? Thanks!
