Help? PAL GC-disc read errors on PAL Wii (no replies)

It's very usual (almost always) nowadays to quickly (in under 3 minutes or so) have disc read error on my PAL wii, when running PAL Gamecube discs. Disc read errors coming at any time are a lot more rare (so rare that it doesn't feel problematic) with NTSC-J Gamecube discs and Wii discs I have, regardless of its region. And the wii is more noisily running discs than it used to be.

Looking for a USB Gecko (5 replies)

Hi guys long time no see! Sorry I haven't been active for a while. I've been too busy with Xbox 360, PC coding, and that all important job of earning money and forgot all about my Wii and the awesome guys here.

Now that introductions are over, here is my main reason for posting. I've finally worked my way to understanding and coding C++ and a little bit of Lua and would like to try my hand at developing a simple "Hello World" app for myself on the Wii before I try to work on bigger projects. However, that means that unfortunately I need the fabled USB Gecko which I can't find on the usual suspects (won't go into details for the rules sake). So basically what I'm trying to say is does anyone have a USB Gecko for sale? I'm located in the US if that helps and would not prefer the USB Gecko SE, but if that's what's available, I'll take that.

New homebrew app idea (2 replies)

Homebrew people i have a favor to ask you you see when i bought my wii u i put all my save data and games on my sd card and sold the other one by accident without realizing that you have to transfer the data from your wii over to your wii u i thought you could just do it with your sd card. So now i have a useless sd card with a bunch of wiiware on it that i paid for and cant play so what i want is an app that will allow you to play those "blocked" wii ware games that again i paid for and cannot play

call it sdwiiware liberator or something like that

ty and i hope you consider making an app for this

Sincerely, Homebrew Enthusiast

It is a Kingston Micro SD card with SD card adaptor, it had been working well albeit it didn't read as fast as it should but now it just seems to slow my computer and my device cannot read it. Another problem is that I run my homebrew on it and not even Wii can see it. What is going on? What is wrong with my card?

Production-quality Wii web server (no replies)

I know that the Wii isn't exactly a package of hardcore computing hardware. But hear me out, here.

The Wii has support for USB 2.0 for Ethernet and storage. It uses less than 20 watts (!) at full load, whereas a full-fledged, admittedly more capable server uses 425 watts. Would it not be really cool to be able to reliably use a Wii for serving static web content, at least? You can pick them up for $30 on eBay, a price which is likely to fall quickly in the future when the new Wii is released.

Why not repurpose your Wii? I've used wiihttpd and Wii Web Server. The first crashed after about 3 requests from the WAN, and the second one is riddled with security holes, if I understand the talk page chatter correctly. I understand that the Wii probably won't ever be able to run PHP or Ruby on Rails at an acceptable speed, but what's stopping developers from creating a stable, effective, "production quality" httpd/ftpd which is capable of serving static content?

FYI: Console DMCA exemption request (2 replies)

Hi all,

Firstly it's been sometime since I've posted, yes I'm still here :)

I just wanted to let you know that UC Berkeley and the Electronic Frontier Foundation are submitting console specific DMCA exemption requests here in the US. The request is very similar to the I-Phone exemption.

I have been in communication giving a case study and statement about my experiences with Wii homebrew and the community here (All positive stuff). I believe the request will be submitted soon with the hope of protecting those who open up (hack is such a misunderstood word) these wonderful consoles and allow petty developers like myself to make these great apps and games for you.

If you enjoy all the free apps., games and software here on Wiibrew the Copyright Office will be accepting feedback from the public on the proposed exemptions. If you've used your Wii for homebrew and are willing to post feedback it would only strengthen the request. Again remember our RULES! Giving feedback against these would not be helpful, we have tried over many years to respect these with the hopes that console makers would see the benefits of homebrew. I believe we've tried extremely hard to block, ban and delete any post or user who have violated these rules.

I will let you all know more if and when I'm given the information.

Thanks,
Scanff
