You can put video files anywhere you like on an SD/SDHC card or USB drive. However, you may need the USB 2.0 cIOS to play things from a USB drive.

You can play stuff without it, it may just be slightly laggy as it will be using USB1.1. It is fine for regular quality music, and I have heard people say its fine for video too (without cIOS this is).
