Anyone here using the latest Wii firmware is able to use savegame backup programs? I've tried everything I can think of but I just can't make any of those savegame backup homebrews programs to work. They either don't load, don't do squat or tell me that they can't find any save data. Well that video was just to show that the initial part doesn't completely work. I'm fairly sure it needs to be run by bannerbomb, so it inherits System Menu permissions. If its run from HBC, those are lost. Which revision of which IOS did you install, and which slot did you install it in?

Also, there is a chance that the new wii will not have 4.3. After all, Nintendo has been slow in the past about getting new updates on wiis and games. If it comes with 4.2 or lower, you could try Pussie Loader.

Just install IOS36 rev1042 in slot 236 using DOP-Mii + ABHPROT flag. Then you will be able to successfully use either SaveGame Manager MOD or Banana Saves (I would recommend backing up with both, they use different methods of backing up).

There is no reason why you need to hold yourself back on backing them up if you have a old enough Wii. System Menu is not an issue. I thought about it but let's not forget, I have a launch system, so my Wii's flash memory is starting to get old, so I'd just be delaying my problem with this since there's a read and write limit on these things.

Also, I'm pretty sure that only physical modifications or tempering voids a hardware warranty. Won't work on the new Wii, as it needs to be run through bannerbomb, and I'd say there is a 99.99% chance the new Wii will have 4.3. Scratch that, I'd be 100% sure, considering red Wiis weren't even around back in the 4.2 days.

EDIT: There is another option that springs to mind: It will void the warranty of the new Wii, but if you were planning on installing HBC on it, that would have done so anyway. When you get the new Wii, keep your old one, then switch the cases of the red and white Wiis, then sell the new wii with the old white case. Launch it through a different loader. Loadmii might work, otherwise, try an old revision of the HBC (this requires system menu 4.1 or older, or a system menu patched with StartPatch or Priiloader).

No those IOS simply don't work with new hardware, they are incompatible. There are a couple of articles about it on HackMii, but the gist of what was said is there were hardware revisions, and the old IOS no longer work on new hardware. It doesn't matter were they are installed, they will not work.

And I'm not completely sure you are correct about post Oct 23 IOS working on all Wiis, I don't know exactly when the changes came about that made IOS incompatible. Anyway, that update eliminated trucha bug and all other public vulnerabilities in every IOS except IOS16, which cannot be obtained legally in a working state.

Basically, it is not possible to do anything with a downgraded IOS on a new Wii. Make sure you have IOS58 installed, you are on the latest HBC (1.0.8) and it is running on IOS58 (press home at the HBC to see the IOS being used by it) and also that you are running the latest DOP-Mii version from wiibrew.org. When you launch it from HBC, select it to run on IOS58 + ABHPROT. This will allow DOP-Mii to install any IOS you want.

If you don't have IOS58 installed, get Tantric's IOS58 Installer.
