WiiBrew Creation Tool for Beginner Programmers

I posted a note about a tool for making WiiBrew. I am not in any way affiliated with the tool except that I am a user.

In my previosu post I even indicated that the tool comes in a free version and that the free version is quite capable of making fully functional Wiibrew. There is a Pro version for a cost but the free version is good enough for many projects. I will not discuss the Pro version so that this post is not mistaken for some advertisement for paid product. I repeat, the Standard Verison is free and is capable of making fully functional Wiibrew.

My post was removed because some members assumed I was making a commertial for the product. This is not the case! I am only trying to make others aware of this software because in my opinion it is an excellent tool for beginner programmers who want to make Wiibrew.

Other members questioned why not learn C/C++ for free. Well, the free version of this software (which can make fully working Wiibrew) is free but more importantly it is about a user's programming skills and a user's choice to use whatever tools they like.

I, myself, have coded Wiibrew using direct C/C++ and I have coded using this software tools. In my opinion, both have advantages and disadvantages. With direct C/C++ coding you can do a lot more sophisticated stuff (like 3D, complex logic, etc) but generally you need some slightly advanced programming stills to do so (or borrow greatly from other sample programs). The software tool, on the other hand, has limits on what it can do but it makes many simple things really easy to do so that even very basic programmers can create graphical games with collision detection, movement, animations, etc.

Please don't delete this post just because you prefer to use direct C/C++ or some other tools. Let the forum members know about this tool and let them make up their minds for themselves. I am sure this software is not right for many advanced users but it may be just the right thing for some beginner programmers. Just like the world of PCs...some programmers prefer the full control of Visual C/C++ while others prefer the ease of Visual Basic. If you are not interested then skip this post but please don't delete it (request to have it deleted) so that others, who might be interested, can read it.

The software tool is Wii Game Studio ...The standard version is absolutely free and it can make fully functional Wiibrew...The software is out of the Beta stage. It does still have many bugs (as can be seen on the forum) which are being worked on but in most cases they are workarounds posted on the forum. I have used it myself and within hours was able to created a fully functional platform game.

Re: WiiBrew Creation Tool for Beginner Programmers

fatquack,

When you first sent me that e-mail, I was very startled and then later very infuriated when I learned you had no basis of actual proof upon which you accused me of.

Now that I have had a couple of days to cool off and clearly think over what has happened, I want to publicly say one last thing to you:

I am going to completely let go of all that has happened between us.

I do not regret anything I said or that I did, but having said that I do not want you to live with the burden of your mistake or have your online identity plagued by it. There have been way too many times in the Wii homebrew "scene" when one person has attempted to ruin the reputation of another and I do not wish to play a role in another one of these battles. I have too little time and too much talent to spend bickering with you any longer and I believe you are in the same boat as I in these regards.

I truly hope that one day you legalize your product, make it free for all people, and release the source code to it so that we may one day have a true Wii gamemaker community. Until that day comes, it is not unlikely that you will continue to receive problems from many more obnoxious people. I hope this whole escapade between us has taught you to better deal with those unavoidable occurrences in the future and not end up creating more problems for yourself like you did by attacking me for almost no reason.

I pursued the removal of your product from paypal but it has been almost a week and I have not received a response from them. With that in mind, I will not personally pursue the removal of your product from paypal any longer. Should anyone else wish to carry on where I left off though, I will surely support them so long as your product remains illegal (seriously dude, it takes three minutes to fixed the legality issue -- do it already :p).

Well now it's time for me to close this message for you. I've made several very important points in this post that I hope you will take note of. You are certainly welcome to continue to post on this forum so long as you do not break any of the rules (this goes for all members though ;P).

--Arikado

Unlike you suggested and unlike I originally thought, he has no form of "proof" beyond this speculation. As you'll read tomorrow, he's not even sure if all of the spam he's received is from the same person but he guesses it must all be from this Cornell fellow. As everyone will read tomorrow, I was really shaken up at first when I came home from school and saw this in my inbox:

Quote
Arikados Inbox
Will Thompson
(Arikado/Cornell)

I am FatQuack from Wii Game Studio and if you try any more funny business, I will press charges for fraud due to your fake email from paypal. I seriously had absolutely no idea what was going on and sent them a reply asking for more information on their accusations. I'd post the entire exchange of emails here but I'd like to throw some comments in between of what was going on inside my head and I'd really rather use my blog as dumping grounds as the entire communication between us was rather long. I also consulted a few people on IRC about it and will use my post tomorrow as an opportunity to thank them (too much homework and not enough time to get the post all neatly written and posted today).

Edit: And no, my name is not "Will Thomas". How they came to that conclusion though is rather amusing. fatquack would later explain to me that he put "Arikado" after [facebook.com] and assumed that the person who popped up was me. I would reply to that telling him that I believe he has the "sleuthing skills of a two year old".

I tried looking up the member named "Cornell" you suggested to me and it seems they deleted all of his posts so I can only assume they shared the same merit and points of view yours did. If they were disgustingly offensive, they should have kept them in order avoid what I can only assume is them trying to get rid of every controversial statement on their forum.

scanff, thanks for posting the response from them. Unfortunately, they are wrong. The problem is that they need those two licenses in their product to legally sell it and they are failing to include them. Plain and simple. Since it only takes two seconds to add the licenses and update the product, it appears that they are doing everything they can to keep people who indirectly contributed to the project from getting credit they are legally entitled to. This is why I and others reported them to PayPal (hopefully by some time tomorrow someone will get a response and we'll know if it's going to be removed from paypal or not).

Basically, the two main complaints people have are:

1)It uses GRRLib for which it gives no credit

- It uses an early version of GRRLib the license for which permits my to do this. I am planning on crediting it in the future, although the reason I did not is because people would question why it is using GRRlib when its license doesn't allow it, although it does not use a version of grrlib that forbids this. it uses version 1.0.

2) It uses 7-Zip.

- I will definately Credit this in future releases, but 7-Zip is not u ised by the software as such, its included as an exe in its own right which is run in a hidden window by Wii game studio. Also, i made no modifications to the 7-zip file, it is just the same as asking users to install devkitPro, but for 7-Zip - only the wiigs installer installs it for you.

Paypal has so many customers they don't want to take any chances, thus they will ban an account if there's any questions. I know this from experience :) However as you know Arikado dealing with some of the other merchant vendors is a pain :P
