WiiBrew Feedback (6 replies)

I can't say enough about this whole thing. All I wanted to do was be able to play DVD movies on my Wii. I found it BS that Nintendo couln't add a few bytes of code to the system to make it do that. I call what those companies do piracy. Force you to have a stack of hardware that you don't need. I stumbled on this and found that I could make my Wii a one stop Game/media shop. I'm going to rave about WiiMC. The SMB feature in WiiMC is amazing. I can play ANYTHING on my Wii now. No more searching around the house through stacks of discs. I setup a network share on my PC to all my MP3,s Home vids, presentations, family photo's, Most everything is all in one awsome menu. You folkes are awsome.

For WiiMC, I recomend the SMB share setting to your media on your local computers. The FTP client is still a little buggy but it's ok because I'm not downloading media. Just accesing on my local computer.

Thanks again.

Over-aggressive caching on Wiki (no replies)

I've been having problems with Special:Preferences on the wiki; it kept seeming not to change my settings. At first I thought it might be my browser or something, so I tried a different one, and discovered that some of the things I'd tried to change had gone through after all. So I tried to change the rest, but soon it seemed stuck again...

So, I thought maybe it was a cache problem, and tried turning off the local cache in Safari. This didn't help, so I eventually tried adding bogus query parameters to the
http://wiibrew.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Preferences

form of the address (which you reach by attempting to save preferences).

Anyway, the point is that someone should probably reconfigure varnish so that it doesn't try to cache Special:Preferences, with either form of address; and I would be surprised if there weren't other Special: pages that it can bogusly cache...

Inconsiderate Mods. (4 replies)

One of the biggest problems I've seen with this site is the lack of consideration of its members by its moderators. In particular, I'm constantly getting onto SifJar for being a total asshole towards people other than myself. They're constantly removing posts simply because they don't think it's helpful as though they're supposed to decide EVERYTHING in the world. Frankly, new mods would be great and I'm about ready to cause a major problem for at least one of them if they don't get their act together and start treating people with a little dignity and respect and quit being an asswipe more often than a helpful mod.
Comments such as, "Seriously, if you can't figure that out, you have no business...," "However, unless you're being stupid, you should never brick your Wii anyway," "Are you a complete idiot? Sorry if that seems harsh, but why would you install a 4.2/4.1 theme on 4.3? Unless you were able to install BootMii/boot2, you CANNOT fix your Wii," make it a point that they have NO business trying to moderate other people's comments. They believe they know everything there is to know about everything and that anything someone else says that disagrees with them and threatens their little world must be destroyed on sight.
Something really needs to be done about this mod because they've belittled at least 5 different people that I know of and they're not getting any better.

Regarding SNEEK... (6 replies)

I know that as soon as you read the title of my post, many insults raced across your mind, and both Mods and Admins alike would fight over who would get to send this post to the junkyard, but I ask you to hear me out first.

It came to me as a shocking suprise when I first heard about the possibility of having a 100% un-brickable Wii through the use of NAND emulation, and then soon after finding out it was now a forbidden application to discuss due to it's ability to load backups with ease. I could've lived WITHOUT knowing about this feature, and wouldn't have cared even if I did find out, since I find it one of the most stupidest methods from which to load games. That is, comparing it to the other available methods.

What really interested me was the potential of working in a, how shall we say, "disposable" environment. If something at one point would break down the emulated NAND, it would all be a matter of replacing it with a sane one, all from the comfort of an everyday computer, as opposed from having to buy an expensive NAND programmer and developing decent soldering skills in order to fix the real physical one. It also interested me because it would work very well as a tool to determine the sanity of NAND dumps from other Wiis, as well as having the potential of manually trying out relatively dangerous things such as custom themes and channels in a rather realistic yet safe environment.

What I'd like to ask is if discussion of SNEEK was allowed, but only limited to it's use as a tool for either repair (more like... testing solutions before instructing on some of the more difficult issues on faulty NANDs) or development, and possibly as a security alternative to bootmii as an IOS (which we all now is quite pointless) and Priiloader. Instructions on how to install it and such would not be up for discussion, however. And it's rather questionable alternative uses would remain forbidden.
I just figured it was worth asking since the discussion of cIOS that enable functionality of several useful applications is allowed, but it's installation is not.

I do hope that, while I was clearly bending the rules when I said my post would not contain anything related to "backup loaders", you would at least take into consideration this idea of mine. If not, I apologize for bringing it up.

Ip address blocking, locking dead threads (8 replies)

With the recent IP address banning, and noobs reviving old dead threads, I had a couple of ideas wonder if it could be done and be helpful.

1. Ip address's-Is there a way when ones creates a account, that that account can be locked into one IP address so that person can only have one name to that one IP address, so this keeps a person from creating more than one account to either troll, or create havoc under more than one name.

2. Dead threads-I have seen this on another site I have its a computer help forum. After a certain time frame a thread is locked and says something "time has expired for this thread create a new thread". Doing this, would it help from having noobs, revive a old dead thread to help on a problem, and force them to create a new thread. Can it be setup so the original creator of the thread can request it be reopened to expand or update there own thread.

I don't know if this would be worth it or would be a hassle, or do any good. I think its a good idea, what does everybody else think?

If you read through the various stickies on the forum, you will be led to believe that Bootmii Beta 1 is the latest version and it may have been abandoned, Bushing still wants to convert people's NAND dumps to run on different wiis (unless he really still does, despite his release of Betwiin quite a while back), nobody has found a solution to a brick in two years, and this needs more relevant questions (Indiana PWNS, or Yu Gi OWNED save file in addition to the Twilight Hack, for example). Is there any chance that these could finally be updated?

Number of Players Section for Wiki (2 replies)

So I was looking around on the wiki, when an interesting idea crossed my mind--do you think there could be a spot on the right hand location of the page (perhaps under the supported controllers module?) with the max number of players supported for the game/application? It's not a die-hard necessity, but sure as heck would be nice for easier browsing! :)

Are question regarding EMULATOR GAMES not allowed? (3 replies)

I know it says discussion of ROMS will "get you banned", but does that include NES/SNES/N64, etc. games that you play on an emulator. The reason I ask is because, obviously emulators can be downloaded directly through the Homebrew Channel, and the Wiki pages contain game compatibility lists, so it seems somewhat at odds that discussion of these games in the Wiki forums would not be allowed. Have I misunderstood what's meant by ROMs? Anyway, just thought I'd check. Peace!
