Whilst it might only have System Menu v3.1 on, it might have had an update to IOS, or one of the mundane channels (ie. News, Weather etc.) that you hadn't already got. I too rented SSMB last night from Blockbuster to perform my upgrade from 2.2u. I was surprised to see it upgraded only to 3.1u as I was expecting 3.2u. Such are the mysteries of life and software.
