Hello,

I stumbled upon this site a few days ago and Im pretty excited about the Homebrew channel. I have read that Nintendo will officially be dropping some channels (weather, everybody votes, wiconnect24, etc) on June 28. Is there any word on this being a new System update? I searched around and have not found a definitive answer.

As of right now my wii is on system menu 4.3. I have not added Homebrew or any else. Would it be wise to wait until after June 28th to install Homebrew? Or would it just be a waste of 2 months?

Thanks for the help!

Strange problem with emulators/apps (4 replies)

Edit: I left out some important information from my problem, mainly the Wii I am actually using. I have a red Wii, the one from Mario's 25th anniversary which came bundled with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, and the Red Wii Remote and Nunchuck, which means that BootMii could only be installed as an IOS. I don't remember if I had installed it or if it failed, but I do remember formatting the SD Card after installing the Homebrew Channel, which means that I have never used BootMii (I had no idea that I needed the SD Card files to use BootMii, so I deleted them).

The reason that I bring my problem here instead of the emulator sites is because they are too similar, which makes me think that the problem is with my SD Card, the SD Card slot, or my Wii.

Hi, I am having a strange problem with all of the emulator apps that I am using. I am using a SanDisk 4GB Micro HC card, which according to the compability list of sd cards, is supposed to work fine. I soft-modded my Wii a year ago using Letterbomb, 4.3U. I did not use bootmii correctly either, didn't do a NAND backup and even deleted it without attempting to use it right. The only thing I have is the Homebrew Channel.

Before listing my problems, I will say that my Wii must have a problem with its internal battery, since if it is inactive for a couple of days, the internal clock of the wii will change. Could this cause problems to the SD Card slot? I have also read that the wii is not a good Micro HC SD Card reader. Is the Wii damaging my SD Cards? I am beginning to think so, since sometimes, the Homebrew Channel fails to see the apps unless the card is removed and re-inserted. I am now going to list the problems with each emulator.

FCEU and SNES9x: When the emulator opens, it says that there is an error in the directory, but I can still access the roms. After playing a game, when I attempt to load another one, the rom list dissappears and I cannot access it, as if the sd card is not inserted.

GENSPLUS: Originally, it didn't boot, but it was because of not placing all of its folders within the app folder. Now it is similar to the above emulators. I can play a game and the screenshots on the game list appear fine, but after playing a game and attempting to load another one, the game list either, dissapears, or the screenshots dissappear, and the emulator is unable to load any games.

MEDNAFEN: I use this to play Turbografx games. Though the roms are on the list, the emulator is unable to load them, but they work on my pc in other emulators.

WII64: Similar to the FCEU and SNES9x, I can load a game, but if I want to play something else, there will be a single game in the list with unknown characters. When I load this game, it is the same game I was playing previously, but the game doesn't boot. I can exit the emulator by pressing the power button on my Wii remote.

RETROARCH: Doesn't load any games, even though it did before. Some games even dissappear.

MAMEWII: I can see the game list, but the games load slower, and nothing shows up once the game loads. The emulator happens to crash I believe.

So what I am wondering is, is my SD Card Slot damaged? Did it damage the SD Cards? Could something else have damaged them? Did the internal battery of the Wii damage the SD Card slot? I am probably asking too much, but I will appreciate any help and thank whoever helps me in advance.

I downloaded a file and got home brew to start loading but it goes into and awful sound and colorful screen fault of sorts.
Im having issues with internet connections and I'm thinking maybe the wii system update will help.
Gamecube playback issue(s) and cleaning up my Wii (no replies)

Hello,

It's been a few years since I've looked at my Wii.

Last weekend I wanted to play some original gamecube games and although there was nothing wrong with the discs I could'nt get it started. The official disc loader app could not read the disc. Because I installed an old back-up loader (Gamecube backup loader, 2years old), I tried that one and got an error message. After searching I tried to install Dios Mios and although their changed nothing with the original disc loader application I managed to load the games with the backup loader. Problem was everything is in German (in game)....

I'ld like to aks 2 questions;

1) How do I get the original loading/disc reader app back to work for the gamecube discs (original Wii games are loading just fine) and how do I change my language back to English? (Option side i have my preferred language on dutch and Englisch, unfortunately all gamecube games play. In German ?ow, those who have the option can be changed to English though)

2) Currently I'm on firmware 4.0 And I have a lot of homebrew which I'm not interested in on my home channel. How do I clean up my Wii. Is an update to 4.3 enough to get everything back on order so I can start out fresh again? Or is it possible, using homebrew to track everything installed on my wii and clean up the Homebrew I don't want to use anymore?

Update 2

Cleaned everything with Wad Creator.
Did a new softmodd and followed it step by step.
Now I can read my normal discs again and have a clean modded wii :o) Thanks to the irc channel.

Can be closed.

NTSC/PAL Flicker Rate Nightmare! (1 reply)

Hello to all, I'm in the UK and I'm looking for any info that can help me.

I turned on my wii today as normal after using it the night before and the screen was flickering. I already suspected it was a flicker rate problem, still I checked my cables and all was well. I checked the settings on my tv set and they are set for 50hz PAL. So I concluded it must be a setting on the wii. I struggled to navigate my way through the system menu to the 'TV Type' option and managed to change it back to 50hz. Now there has been no reason for this to happen as was working the night before.

I have a collection of mixed region games. Now, the PAL ones work and the screen stays normal but flickers when I load an NTSC version. I've tried all of the video types (e.g. 'Force PAL50') in the loader options and I just get a black screen freeze up.

I resorted to loading bootmii but when I booted the bootmii menu screen flickers. I can see it well enough to navigate to the NAND Restore Option, which I saved when I installed bootmii, priiloader and HBC. But wanted to see if there are any other options before I commit to a potentially console bricking process.

I'm running Sytem Menu 4.3E.

I hope someone can help shed some light on this. My console is running at 480p/60hz - but, despite being an NTSC game, Tales of Symphonia forces itself to 50hz, displays with black borders, and has a second image of the screen interposed over the first giving a weird double-vision thing.

I've tried different cables, different video settings, no change. This is driving me nuts! My TV has complete support for all current video formats, so that can't possibly be an issue.

Besides which, it works perfectly at 60hz through loaders in The Homebrew Channel, but I don't want to boot it that way! I bought a retail disc, I should be able to boot it through the disc channel.

I don't have any other NTSC region disc to test, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Need some help for running Homebrew Apps (5 replies)

My Wii is updated to the latest version and currently has Homebrew Channel installed and running, plus BootMii (latest official version, I think) installed on a SD. However, when I try to run an app like Any Title Deleter, it just won't work. Is there any way to remedy it?

System Update Issue (3 replies)

So, I was going to the Wii Shop channel to redeem a code from Club Nintendo when it asked me to get the latest System Menu.
I just want to ask if any of you know if it's safe to update my Wii; like I've said before I only have emulators on my SD Card to play on the Homebrew Channel and haven't really modified anything else besides that.

Is there by any chance a new System Menu 4.4? I've checked on Google and skimmed through the Wiki to see if there was any information on it but no luck.

I can post more to this if more information is needed.

Anywho, thanks in advance.

Homebrew Channel freezing (2 replies)

I am having a weird problem and I'm a bit of a noob so I may be doing something odd. I have a wii with 4.3u and the HomeBrew channel installed. What happens occasionally is that either the menus freak out and the pop up menu keeps going up and down or the channel freezes, moving the background "bubbles" a tiny bit every 10 seconds or so. Now comes the really bizarre part... I went to check some stuff on my SD card and noticed a whole bunch of png files on the root with pictures of the homebrew channel screen with the menu at various stages of popping up and down, like it is constantly screen capping. What have I done wrong?

How is it that official games are BURNED? (2 replies)

This is NOT a piracy question, I'm simply curious as to why this is. What is it about the OFFICIAL Nintendo discs that allows them to read, but avoid a copy of a disc that has the exact same data? Is it the way they are burned at Nintendo? A size difference in the discs? Some sort of invisible code somewhere on the disc? I've always wondered how the Wii distinguishes between official and non-official discs, and why we haven't been able to burn "Official" discs, essentially for any console.

So what is it about these discs that are so special?

Wii to Wii U transfer & Boot Mii IOS (3 replies)

Hello everyone!

So, i was reading on how to transfer content from a Wii to a Wii U and saw that transferred data is permanently deleted from the Wii console. If i were to make a backup with "BootMii IOS" before transferring, would i be able to safely restore the original data to the Wii after the transfer? Would that work or is there no other way than a "BootMii Boot2" backup and restore? I ask this because I have one of the newer wii's that can only use the IOS option. Thanks for the answers!
