how will I unbrick my wii? (11 replies)

My wii 4.3u is bricked. I turned my wii menu from white to black with mymenuify but when I turned off my wii and turned it back on, there was a black screen. The console was working because the light turned green and their were sounds. I did a ton of research. Savemii wouldn't work because my wii doesn't have a gamecube slot. I have downloaded bootmii but I downloaded the wrong version so that sucks. So, I thought maybe I could download bootmii as boot2 ( I'll use my MAC address on letterbomb ) on my friends wii and my sd card. After I do some protection things on bootmii on my friends wii and save bootmii to my sd card and put it ( sd card ) in my bricked wii, I'll see bootmii right away on my wii and fix it. Will this work? If not, are there any FREE ways to unbrick my wii. If not, tell me anything you can. I NEED MY WII FIXED! please!

bootmii (no replies)

Anyone know why a bricked wii with boot2 bootmii would load bootmii to a black screen with a flashing blue led drive light? But still loads other mini apps like cboot2 (fails to load ios), and nand formater (fails to install wads). Replaced bootmii folder, format sd card, new sd card, no joy.

edit- does anyone have a copy of the nand formater that only installed wads and did not format?

edit2- nand formater eventually installed a valid ios, but crashed on system menu install. cboot2 was able to load the installed ios and get the rest of the menu installed. System setting restore was able to fix the setting.txt restoring the menu. Boot2 bootmii and ios both still load to a black screen with blinking blue led drive light. In addition loading hackmii v1.0 via BB2 also results in a black screen with blue led drive light. HBC 1.03 was installed and is working, all apps and games appear to work as they should.

Is it possible to use nandbincheck on a nand dump from realwnd and the keys from a bootmii dump? Or use the keys to convert the realwnd dump to a proper nand.bin for bootmii to evaluate with nandbincheck?

Other than bootmii and hackmii, everything seems to work as it should.

Mysterious brick, no luck fixing. (3 replies)

Hey everyone, I've never posted here but I hope someone will be able to help me out. I've got a Wii that appears to be bricked. I installed homebrew on it several months ago and have had no issues until now. I'm not sure what specific action may have caused the brick, as it was my roommate who noticed and brought it to my attention, and he tells me the last thing he used it for was to play a Gamecube game. I have no reason to think he was installing any homebrew apps or messing with things. It sounds as if the Wii just suddenly wouldn't turn on from one play session to the next.

So here are my basic symptoms:

A couple of notes first: BootMii is installed as boot2, and I made a NAND backup of the system when I first installed it, so when I learned of the problem I wasn't too worried as I thought I could easily recover. However....

- When the power button is pushed, the disc drive light flashes once, pauses briefly, then flashes twice. I'm not completely sure, but it seems to me that this is a different pattern than the "modded" flash pattern that I'm used to seeing indicating that BootMii is working. Correct me if I'm wrong.

- As soon as the flashes end, the Wii emits a loud buzzing noise which I think is coming from the disc drive. It lasts 2-3 seconds and sounds louder and more rattle-like than usual.

- A black screen appears on my TV. No health warning, just black. I've read about some types of bricks where the health warning does appear and one can access "maintenance mode" or something. Clearly this isn't the case for me.

So at this point I went about researching how to fix this myself. I happily found my backup folder from when I ran HackMii, complete with nand.bin, keys.bin and the bootmii folder. No sweat, right? Sadly, here's what happened when I started up the Wii with all of this on an SD card inserted:

- The drive light flashes only once this time.
- The same loud buzzing noise happens.
- Nothing appears on the TV at all. At least the black screen indicated the Wii was outputting a video signal, but now my TV just stays in the blue "not receiving a signal" state. So even worse than before, in other words.

So to sum up, black screen on startup, trying to preload BootMii doesn't seem to work even thought it is installed as boot2. (Unless I did that part wrong? copied keys.bin, nand.bin + bootmii folder with armboot, etc to root of SD card and inserted it into the Wii). Reading about other types of bricks and ways to fix them, none seem to apply to my situation.

The only other possibility I can think of is that it's a hardware failure of the disc drive. The louder, more rattling-sounding noise it makes since the brick happened might be evidence for that. I don't know if a disc drive failure causes the symtoms I'm having. It wouldn't totally surprise me though, as my Wii is very, very old (probably one of the launch units, in fact).

Thanks a whole lot in advance for any advice you can give me. Cheers.

Wiimotes Not Working After Homebrew Browser Load - BootMii not installed (1 reply)

Hi, just a few questions. Very new to Wii. Installed Homebrew Channel correctly. (It shows on Wii Menu 4.3). I used Letterbomb with the correct Mac address. To my dismay as I have seen in some forums, the controller I used is a MotionPlus controller. I have another of these and a regular Wii controller.

I was hesitant to install Bootmii for fear of not being able to revert to the original settings (Is there anything out there for this?)
When I loaded the Homebrew Browser (that I extracted to a new folder I created called "apps") from the Channel. It then failed after some dialogue screen that was "Extracting the image files". I now cannot use either of the MotionPlus controllers or the regular controller to bypass the Health/Safety warning and no cursor shows on the Wii 4.3 Menu.

Is there a way I can install Bootmii? Is this what I would need to do? Presently unable to use any of the 3 controllers I have. Desperate for a fix. Pardon the play on words. Please help?!

My Wii is a mess, and I don't know correct terminology! (8 replies)

Hello! Thank if you for your time if you've decided to read this! I will now tell the full story in a way that explains my relatively low knowledge of the Wii:
I was happy homebrew user, 4.2u. I updated to 4.3u (I think :p). Unfortunately I decided to Install homebrew for 4.3u by following some strange and questionable youtube tutorial. It worked well. I then made the fateful and dumb decision that my system menu needed to be black. I installed the Korean system menu and it semi-bricked my Wii. I followed Internet tutorials to download and install programs that were usually chuck full of bugs n' errors; I tried to fix my Wii. The programs included DOP-MII, Priiloader, and WAD Manager (Please don't delete this topic if any of those programs or the files involved are illegal, I'm posting this hoping to gain this knowledge.) I was prompted to use these programs to install/replace a slew of system files. My semi-bricked Wii was not fixed, but turned to a brick of a higher caliber in the process (booting the system menu at all results in a black screen.) Because of BootMii, I can still access homebrew channel... But a program that launches disks from the homebrew channel at a 75% success rate still leaves a hole in the heart of my over-all Wii experience. I WANT MY WII BACK :'( I heard that any software fix could be done as long as I have bootmii and the homebrew channel... (Which I do)... Some of you kind folk I know are mighty savvy with the Wii... Can anybody offer a solution? Thank you. :)

Homebrew Wii can't run Wii to Wii U Transfer? (7 replies)

I'm really hoping somebody here can help me. I installed the homebrew channel on my Wii years. About two years ago the disc drive stopped working, but I was still under warranty with Nintendo. I knew it was risky, but I formatted the wii and sent it in for repair.

It came back with a note that Nintendo had found "the homebrew channel" on the Wii, which voids the warranty and it wouldn't be repaired. Fair enough. But they also nerfed the Wii to the point where I can't take it online.

Here's the message.

The problem is, I have spent hundreds of dollars in the Wii shop and I want to transfer those purchases to my Wii U. I can't download the wii to wii u transfer on my Wii, so I had to download it on my wii u and then move it to the sd card. I then popped the sd card in my wii and ran the transfer program off the sd card. Heres the bummer, I get a "This system cannot perform this operation" message as soon as it boots?

Is there anyway to get around this? Any help would be seriously awesome.

Restoring Wii after Factory Reset...without uninstalling softmod first (8 replies)

Our Wii was reset to factory settings without having softmod removed first, I have read a similar post on this board but has not seemed to resolve my issue. I am not really sure what I am looking for to repair this. The HBC is gone due to the format, but now error code 32004 so it is obviously not updating. The Wii is turning on, but no updates and no games can be played. I will be checking the SD card in the morning, but if I could have some hints on what to do next to get this up and running it would be great. We actually sold it and the person is returning it to us to fix it, but I was not the one that soft-modded it so need some assistance reversing this. Even if I can get it updated to version 4.3 I can load letterbomb on it and let it go from there....help :)?!

Update wii software without "bricking?" (2 replies)

Hey guys, I haven't touched my wii(currently 4.1u) for around a year so I'm a bit rusty on what I'm supposed to do and everything that I've found online seemed sketchy.
While I was away from home, my father and brother bought a new game called "NBA 2K11" which required a software update. They accepted the update and the wii displays only a black screen(bricked?) after rebooting.
I luckily got the the wii working again by restoring a file that I've backed up(backed up long time ago) in my SD card through BootMii. But I don't know how to update my wii software to play the game.
I tried updating from the game disc, but the same thing happened (black screen) and I restored it again using the same backup in the SD card.
I'm not sure if I have a CIOS installed or not because my "USB Loader GX" says it requires 'at least cios 222 or 245-250' which I believe was the whole point of why I have Dop-mii and cios installers.

I just want help on how to update my wii without losing homebrew and if possible, custom configurations

Is there a fix to my problem? Cannot find any info. (3 replies)

Hello all - here's my problem. I have a launch Wii (bought it day 1) and I've had it softmodded for about 2 years now using Indiana Pwns. Everything has been hunky dory and I've never had the slightest problems, however a week or two ago I was trying to play a SNES rom via Snes9x Gx and when I went to plug a Gamecube controller in the system died. It just all went black as if there were a short of some kind. Ever since then I cannot get the Wii to start at all.

I have two different power bricks (both official Nintendo products) and have done the brick cycle trick to no avail. The problem seems somewhat unique and I cannot find any specific info on it by googling around. I made a short video showing what exactly happens - you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmNono0IotA&feature=youtu.be

Basically when plugged in the power indicator is red, when you press the power button the indicator goes green and the disc tray lights up blue for about one second then the system just dies. If you cycle the power the same thing occurs. I cannot get it to do anything else besides this.

So, is this a brick? if so what kind of brick? If it isn't necessarily a brick does anyone have any ideas on how to go about repairing it? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

What happens when your Wii boots up? (How far it gets, does the Wii remote work, does the system freeze, go black, etc.)Nothing, Wii will not boot at all.

What Version of the System Menu is installed on the Wii?
- I'd say 4.1

Is the Homebrew Channel, the Twilight Hack, Indiana Pwns, Yu-Gi-Oh Exploit, Smash Stack, Bathaxx, Return of the Jodi, or Eri HaKawai installed on the system?
- Homebrew channel via Indiana Pwns

Does your Wii have a Drivechip?
No, softmodded only

Have you been able to boot homebrew in any way?
No

Do you have BootMii/boot2 or Preloader (Priiloader) installed?
no.

Thank you for reading!

Help fixing wii (2 replies)

I turned on my wii today and when I got to the health warning screen I would push a and the text would start to fade, but then it would just completely freeze up with the text still partly showing. I booted into maintenance mode and from there installed bootmii into boot2. I can boot into the HBC from bootmii. However now when I try to get into the wii system menu, it will let me pass the health and warning screen, and load the menu. Right as the system menu starting sound is about to end, the wii freezes up and starts making this buzzing sound.

I was able to make a backup of my NAND through bootmii and it said that 3 blocks were corrupt, so I put that through nandBinCheck and am unsure about the output. I've been playing Skyward Sword and have ran the update included on that as well as running a wii system update while in maintenance mode, but I was already up to date.

Here is the output of nandbincheck. I had to redirect it into a file to copy everything, but it still outputted some information to the command prompt, so I included both the command and it's output and the contents of the files I saved it to

[pastebin.com]

Thanks for your help

Mod broken? (3 replies)

Uhm, I don't quite understand the warning about topics that warrant a ban, is it to not upload such things? Just coming here for support as I don't know where else to turn....

With that being said, I used BootMii to softmod my Wii, Followed the instructions perfectly. Got Priiloader, HBC, and some other things, though I haven't used the Wii in a while I don't know all the details, though I can get them for you if need be. What I used my newly hacked Wii for, I will not disclose. My problem is this...

Before modding the Wii, my friend tried Action Replay. That did not work at all, so he wanted to take it back and I told him not to, as the memory card that comes with it is very useful. It acts as a standard SDHC memory card, but you can take the back off to plug into a usb to access the files on it, if you did not have a memory card reader. And what contains all the memory, is a micro SD 2gb card. So with that being said, I wiped what was on the SD card, and used that to mod my Wii with (SD card bootable) And everything went swimmingly.

Well, I had to redo my Android phone as I placed a new rom on it, and I took the memory card from my Wii, and placed my Micro SD card into it and used it as an adapter to wipe my SD card, while setting the Wii one aside. I went back to my Wii after redoing my phone and placed the Wii micro sd back into the adapter and booted up my Wii. What follows is a black screen for about 1 minute, and goes straight to home menu. I try to access my HBC, and can get to it, but none of my apps are showing up. The regular modded menu where you use the Wii hard buttons to navigate no longer shows up.

What happened? Do I have to remod my Wii?

Priiloader Fails to boot (7 replies)

Hey, I'm new here...I set up my homebrew channel about 2 weeks ago with a 2gb Sd card and the smash stack exploit for wii system menu 3.2U. I Theme-Bricked my wii but was able to fix it with priiloader by updating my system menu to 4.1 with the homebrew app "Multi Mod Manager" and downloaded a new theme for 4.1. I then installed it with MyMenuify then exited to my menu, the menu booted up (though it took a little longer than it usually does) and everything looked fine. Right after I looked around the menu for a minute I rebooted the wii and got a black screen, after a little bit of waiting I shut it off and tried to launch priiloader but this time nothing happened. I tried several times and priiloader won't start up...please help, I really don't want to spend money on a fix.

I successfully booted priiloader several times before I was able to unbrick my wii the first time and I'm pretty sure I tested it after I updated aswell.
