Factory Reset a modded Wii (2 replies)

Hi guys,

I'm new to this, but I've read quite a bunch of info on HB and stuff for about a month now.
I'm a Nintendo fan as far as I can remember but can't get enough time to play.

Ok, lets get to the point. My cousin was about to give me a previously modded wii (probably with only Homebrew, since he never opened that channel, someone did that to the wii). But, his nephew 'accidentally' do a factory setting on his wii, and he said that he could not play any games anymore (I assume he used to play pirated games before..).

Because of that, he wanted to give the console to me.

So, I wanted to ask you guys before I start doing anything to the console, can I proceed with the standard HB installation procedure, or I need to do some kind of diagnosis first? (Priiloader, Bootmii (iOS/boot2), etc2)

Sorry for this silly question. And I'm not into piracy. just want to have an added advantage for my future Wii.

I think I need to update the software on my Wii (1 reply)

Wow, I cant believe that my account is still active! I havn't used it in nearly 7 years and it's still here. Says my post count is 0, but oh well.

Anyway, I think I need to update my wii. Got some new "stuff" and it doesn't work, at all. The problem is that since I haven't even used the Wii in years, my memory is shot. I'm reading through tutorials and I don't even recognize these terms anymore.

I remember from years ago there was a program I could run on the Wii that would scan the wii and dump a text file of all the software versions, etc etc. What's that called? I think I remember how to load it on the SD card. I probably need to get that before you guys can even tell me what to do to update the software (firmware?)

Treat me like a newb, I don't mind :)

EDIT: Okay, after I posted this I realized that i'm the first to post in over a month. i guess this is a dead site. I've turned on email replies, so if you can help me, i will get it.

USB DVD drive (no replies)

Hi all,
las week I decided to install the Homebrew Channel on my red wii (4.3, IOS58) in order to be able to use wiiMC (yes, I am way LATE on the matter, but I thought I could get a personal play and entertainement center for my son in his room through the wii). Everything worked fine and I also got the wiiMC official Channel installed (with some issues because wiimc.org server was down in the meantime and I could not get to read their FAQ
Since I was hoping to get it read movie DVD I plugged my external DVD burner/reader, but all I got was wiiMC crashing.
I googled it around and somehow I was convinced that I needed to install CIOS 202 or 222 with uloader in order to have this working (shame on google showing 6 years old threads and tutorials in the first three pages ;) ).
After that I realized that CIOS were not needed, since USB driver support should be achieved thought the libraries of homebrew channel and not through CIOS (despite showing that DVD playback was enabled with 202...).
I have tested a few times with different results: sometimes the wiiMC sees the driver and can load the disk, I get the menus and I can play the movie, sometimes it can only be done after I run uloader on the device, get it tell me it's a wrong disk (well, it's a MOVIE!), sometimes it just crashes and reboot in 8 seconds.
I know this is not a CIOS support (but I would love to get rid of them), so I am just asking about external DVD drive support: in the old wiiMC forums (now they are up again) there are infos about the library being developed through homebrew libogc and a test application for devices, but link to test application no longer work and thread is so old that it applies to version 1.11... Here I cannot find any info on external dvd drive in the past year, and I could fing nothing useful in the earlier posts...
I'm not sure if I should address my question to application forum since the wiiMC forums looks dead to me, so please bear with me if this is not the right place.

How to anti-brick Wii? (4 replies)

Hello. I am a new Homebrew user, and the only reason I pretty much got a Wii in 2016 was to play my favorite game of all time, Mario Kart Wii, and the only reason I got HBC was because I wanted to play on Wiimmfi and get CTGP-R. I formatted the Wii once I got it, and I don't regret getting one. A couple questions though. The last thing I would EVER want to happen to my Wii is for it to get bricked, since my parents would murder me, so what are some good anti-bricking stuff I can get, and can you explain how to install/use them the non-noob way? I don't think I installed BootMii with the HackMii installer, because the lousy tutorial didn't even mention it.

Where to find AnyRegion Changer offline system menus? (3 replies)

Hi,

I often use AnyRegion Changer to switch back and forth between the Japanese Wii menu and the European Wii menu. Whenever I do that, the program searches my SD card to see if I have the menu on it before asking me to download it from the Internet.

Here's the problem: searching the SD card takes an hour. I'm not exaggerating. It literally takes an hour. There is apparently a way to download the Wii menus onto a computer and put them onto the SD card in advance, so my question is: where do I find these? And where should I put them onto my SD card? It'd be awesome to be able to switch menus without needing to wait for so long. Any help is highly appreciated.

Hello!

I am pretty new to all the homebrew stuff and I've been thinking about it for a while, and now I finally got to it yesterday and got everything up and running; homebrew, bootmii, and some stuff mentioned in this video; [www.youtube.com]

Today I sat down and was in the mood to play Zelda SS, so I popped in the disc and was met with the terrible fate of not being able to play the game as the disc seems to require a system update. I'm very scared that my WII will become unusable after this update, but never being able to pop a game disc in it again isn't exactly a great option.
I am currently running system version 4.3, and I remember reading someone saying everything above 4.1 was made to kill anything that isn't supposed on your wii.

What would be the best option? Uninstalling everything and then performing the system update? How will I know there's no traces left in my system? I've looked around and I don't really see any way you can skip an update to play the game. I've also seen mentions of some kind of patch but that it rewrites your flash memory, and I'm not sure if I want to use anything on my wii I can't 'undo'. Im really newbie with those things, so I'd appreciate a simple explanation.
Hope to get answers, thanks.

BannerBomb Wii3.3e Help. (7 replies)

I have a Wii on version 3.3e. I have seen people get theirs working with bannerbomb to launch hackmii and get the homebrew channel.
I cant update. And I don't have access to any games to get an update.

I am using a micro SD in an adapter. The Wii recognizes it and reads from it seemingly fine.
I have Hackmii installer V1.2. And Banner Bomb V1 as it is meant to work with Wii versions 4.1 and lower.

I have followed the instructions and I have set up my SD card the way they show. With the private folder being the only one in the root, along with the boot.elf file for hackmii.

When I try run it through the Wii it goes all the way to the "scam" message. Then freezes.
It does not even give me the option to press 1.

I have seen on Youtube that this sometimes takes a minute or two before it pops up. But I have left it at this screen for about half an hour and nothing comes up.

I have formatted the SD card a few times. I have also formatted the Wii and this has not helped.

I have tried all the different versions of Bannerbomb V1. Some will freeze before bringing up the "scam" screen. And all of the ones that do seem to work, they only go as far as the "scam" screen, but never give me the option to press 1.

I have looked around and can see people saying there 3.3e is working with all this but find no answers as to how they got it running. They were older posts of course, so I'm thinking that maybe I need older versions of the Hackmii and the bannerbomb software. But I cant seem to find it. Everything is either a link to porn/ a virus or the official sites which only have the newer versions.

Can somebody who has managed to get their 3.3e system running without updating to 4.2 give me some help on this matter.

Thanks if anybody can.
