Need help making Wii homebrew to power USB microrelays to turn things on and off. (Use your imagination) (1 reply)

Hi. I have a Wii, n64 combo console that I'm looking to make better. Currently when you want to play n64 you have to get up and turn it on. I'd like to make a homebrew channel I'd like to call n64 launcher. Basically, I'd like for it to activate a relay at launch and put the Wii into an energy save mode. An auto sensing a/v switcher will do the rest. I'd like to be able to reset it by pressing a button on Wii remote, switch back to Wii with n64 on by pressing home, and off by pressing and holding a and trigger. I can draw a schematic for how the relays need to work but on the software side, I'm clueless.

They make a micro controlled relay board that plugs into a USB port. I think I'd only need a two channel board to operate the n64. The first relay could be normally open and hooked up to the n64 power. The second is for reset.

Any ideas are welcome. I'm not sure if these boards come with a driver. If so it would make a nice template to make a port for Wii.

An app like this has a lot of potential. If have an idea of things u could use these relays for pls post them here.

I'm sure there are people with more creative ideas than me.

Logitech Speed Force Compatibility Hack (2 replies)

Dear fellow wiibrew members,

I'm new to this forum, so...hello :). I tried looking for a section where I could find support for things other than Wiis, but it seems this is the only ideas/request section there is on this forum.

I recently stumbled upon a Logitech Speed Force Wireless Wheel; a friend of mine was moving out from his dorm and because his Wii was already broken he told me I could have his wheel or else it was going in the garbage. I thought it would be a nice addition and thought it was PC compatible, and hastily accepted his offer.

To my surprise, I found that this wheel is obsolete, even according to Logitech, but there is one thing I found on the WiiBrew wiki that lead me to search these forums and finally make a post after many hours of Googling. According to the Speed Force link on the WiiBrew Wiki There was a Linux solution that was made to allow the wheels buttons to function. For Windows, however, there wasn't much of a solution, or a follow up, as the page hasn't been updated for over three years. I'm assuming here that the whole project has been scrapped.

Currently, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro and have the device plugged in. The usb dongle is detected and the wheel is also detected as a HID-compliant game controller in the device manager, and in Control Panel as Wii Cordless Wheel. As the wiki page says that in Windows it is recognized with 11 buttons and 3 axis, I thought it would work. When I try to calibrate the device, the buttons aren't providing feedback or recognition, which makes me come back to the wiki article where some communication with the device via libusb is required in order to get the actual device to start functioning; This is possible in linux with a kernel that is provided but not for Windows.

Because I am not a programmer/coder/homebrewer/whatever-you-call-it, I was wondering if someone could either provide me, as well as the community, with a solution OR even redirect me to a page or another place where I could find a solution, OR help me complete the steps mentioned in the wiki - even if the axis are corrupted. I don't know how to setup or use LibUsb-win32 to execute commands nor do I have the capibilities of making my own driver for this device.

Any help is appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read this post!

It's not just for me either. Old apps that need to be recompiled for motion+ controllers sometimes require large amounts of code to be rewritten. If someone wrote a wrapper, only a couple of lines would need to be added. This would speed things up and reduce the chance of error.

I've tried to do this myself, but I am a rather poor coder and all my knowledge of C is self-taught, mainly through trial and error.

PS: Doing this will almost certainly lead to riches and glory. Or poverty and shame. You know what, forget I even mentioned this bit.

Fixing the vertical aim issue (3 replies)

I just bought a used wii recently and i was really excited about playing fps games with the wii controls. The first game i bought was red steel and i find this and other fps games unplayable because of the vertical aim issue. When I aim at the center of the screen the cursor is at the very bottom. I've researched this extensively and have found many people having the same problem and nobody with a solution. I only downloaded the homebrew channel and joined this forum to fix this problem (i'm a novice programmer). I've searched this forum to no avail. I think a calibration program would be very useful to a lot of people. I'm willing to develop this program my self but since i have no programming experience on the wii it would probably be easier if somebody else wrote it.

Overclock the Wii? (3 replies)

Hello.
I know that there has been experiments to get MIOS to run at 1.5x (i.e. 'Wii mode speed') and take advantage of the speed the Wii can produce. As opposed to benefitting from the power and maintaining the accurate game speed, the game speed is 1.5x.

I am curious to know if there is a possibility that the Wii for 'Wii mode' can be overclocked.
I heard that the Wii is synced to the speed it is set to, and that overclocking disturbs this sync, but I was curious to know if it would be at all possible to increase the CPU and GPU, and perhaps even RAM clock speed like one would do with a PC.
It would be great to get some extra power for choppy games and some homebrews in general, as well as general performance :)

Thanks.

Anyone interested in a simple program to use your Wiimotes as controllers on the PC? (1 reply)

So some time ago I made a simple program for myself which enables you to use your Wiimotes as controllers on the PC.

Basically it passes the input which the PC receives from a Wiimote via BlueTooth to a virtual joypad using ParallelPortJoystick (http://ppjoy.bossstation.dnsalias.org/)

You then have a fully functioning gamepad with various axes, buttons and POV, depending on the extension connected to the Wiimote (supporting Wiimote alone with the X/Y/Z acceleration as joystick axes, Classic controller, Nunchuck and the Guitar Hero guitar controller). Here's a screenshot of the game controller settings:

The program is very easy to use and doesn't have to be configured like a lot of other programs out there.

Here's a screenshot of my program:

So if anyone is interested, i can write a little guide how to use it (it's really very simple) and upload the program (it's not bigger than 100KB).

It's written in C# (so Windows only) and I am using "WiimoteLib" (http://www.wiimotelib.org/) for communication with the Wiimote.

I would love to get some feedback and probably be able to improve it and make it even better / simpler.

Oh and anyone thinks this might be againts some copyright (of the guys who made PPJoy or the WiimoteLib of from Nintendo) please tell me, that's why i haven't uploaded the program yet.

Manga app (1 reply)

Hello i'm new here so i might be doing something wrong.
Anyways i was wondering if there was a manga application for wii homebrew not a picture viewer because i've already seen them. An app where it gets it's information from manga websites like mangafox.me. Basicly a wii version of an iphone manga app like Mangarock. I would apprecite if a manga fan who can make apps can make one of these apps.

Mod to darken the screen? (6 replies)

So my Wii has the component cable issue that I've found some other people have, where the whites are just too damn bright. And of course during a game, pressing the Home button (which darkens the screen) actually makes it look just fine.

I've been pondering the possibility of a mod that permanently darkens the screen. It seems simple enough, but would it be possible to keep this feature running during games? It is seriously nearly impossible to fly in Skyward Sword due to the clouds.

Oh, and one note: NO, adjusting the contrast or brightness on my TV will not work. This is an issue with the Wii itself that some TVs have when connected via component.

So, what do you all think?
