[Wii U] What memory address is safe to dump? (not Wii mode, but I can't find a forum for that)

Hi!
So I'm doing stuff with libwiiu's Internet Browser stuff and I found rpc.dump_mem(). What memory address is safe to dump? Like, I don't want to brick my Wii U, so I'm not going to pick a random memory address. And what length is good from that memory address?

Since the homebrew channel is running in Wii mode, you need a Wii remote (the one that points at the screen) and you can use a Wii Classic Controller (that plugs into the Wii remote.

Searched for so long now...

Trying to get a simple answer to this:

Have a wii U with homebrew.

Own a lot games and want to play them on diffferent emulators. (N64, SNES, Wii)

Wich gamecontrollers work? Or how can i get them to work?

-Gamecube controller? With Gamecube adapter? Is that any good?
-WiiU pro controller (not with display)
-PS3?

Does any wireless controller work?

I am very sad at the moment.... Nothing works....

There are TONS of videos out there to get the HOmebrew channel on the WiiU, but none about after you put it on...

Hello,

I recently got around to installing HBC etc. on my Wii U. I used the lovely builds that that allow for screenshots of each game and Wii U pro controller support. While browsing the games I find it will crash (just freezes up) from time to time. Not all the time, but enough for it to be a nuisance. I searched the forums and google, but have not been able to find a thread or anything that helps. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Is there any other info I should provide that might be helpful?

PS I am also having another slight problem with the screenshots. Certain images show up as grey and glitchy looking. I am using the set of snaps from emumovies. It seems to happen much less often when browsing NES and Game Boy and is more prevalent on more "advanced" systems, SNES and GBA.

Wii U not functioning?

So I've had a Wii U for about ten months now, and I've had the HomeBrew Channel installed for about eight. It has been functioning great, not a single issue! Until I visit my parent's to watch the house for the week, and when they return, my brother boots up his brand new Wii U after we all get off mine, having just played Nintendo Land. About thirty minutes later, I turn on mine, and.. the Quick Launch Menu is unresponsive. Weird. No touchscreen, no analog, no button feedback at all. Okay, so I turn it off, and turn it on via the console. The Wii U GamePad doesn't function on the mainscreen, and I have to use a Wii Remote to access a game, but when I do, the GamePad functions fine, except for the touchscreen.

I guess my question is, could this issue have been a problem with the HomeBrew Channel? Also, how can I remove the channel from the Wii Menu and leave minimal traces of it being there?

Want to play multiplayer in Nintendont(Wii U) but I can't get more controllers to read, the only one that does is the PS3 controller which I have as controller.ini in the root of the SD/USB. I can't get my Nyko wired PS3 controller to work nor my Classic Controller(Hori Battle Pad). The clasic controller works in the Homebrew and Nintendont menus but not in the game. As for the wired PS3 controller it has the red light lit up on the "1" but it doesn't do anything in the game. Please help

Basically, as long as you aren't messing around with IOSes or are trying to install things which write to the NAND (e.g., priiloader), the chances of bricking it are almost nonexistent.

If anyone else has anything to add, feel free to comment!

The Homebrew Channel cannot brick the the Wii U BUT messing with it can brick it.Can you tell me warnings about Homebrew and how to not get bricked? I really don't want to have a bricked Wii U.

For that it sounds like you're talking about a Wii U emulator, which would use a Wii U gamepad. Sure it could be possible but that'd be a lot of work.

So apparently the joke is that the u in wii u stands for "unsoftmoddable", but here's something I just thought of:

The giant tablet/controller that comes with it.

In theory, you could sync it to a computer, and create a pseudo-emulator that works between the computer and the tablet, so that it thinks it's connecting to a wii, and then send any backup game data directly from your computer to the controller.

Is this possible, or am I going crazy?

Black Screen when HDD plugged

I'm new to this forum and will really appreciate your help!

My HBC works fine but I'm having problems recognising the HDD. When I plug the HDD (port 0) and then go to HBC, I get a black screen (If I htake out the HDD, HBC works fine and shows all the apps). What could be the issue?

GUYS! I SWEAR I SAW A LETTER BOMB LETTER IN MY MAIL ON MY WII LOADER ON MY WII U!! I swear guys, I swear. I did what you would normally do with LetterBomb for your Wii, I found my MAC Address from the Settings app in my Wii U menu. When I finally decided to put in my SD Card, I went into the Mail and went directly to yesterday. There was nothing. When I went back to today, I first saw a red letter and then a white letter pop over it. After that, i could still see the SD card logo on top, but I couldn't see the letter itself, I could only see the white letter. I did not want to damage my beloved Wii U so I just took out the SD card, and turned off my Wii. Please test this for me!

Unfortunately,there is no solution till today and the only way to enter vWii is via the maintenance mode trick.

But today I tried to play some Wii games and upon saving I noticed something very weird. The save's date and time are completely off. For example my latest save appears to be created at 10/08/2001.

I know that vWii's date and time can easily be fixed by addressing Wii U menu settings. I am absolutely sure and I have double-checked that Wii U displays the correct date and time while vWii NOT.

I suppose this is the cause of the semi-brick because this causes a lot of problems at vWii's message board.

So,is it possible to correct vWii's date and time and -if my assumptions are correct - solve the semi-brick problem once and for all?

Frankly, I can't think of anything.

I forgot to mention I've got a PAL WiiU, if that can help. This is a console from launch, but I have installed the latest official system update, which may be somewhat relevant for wii mode since it allowed playing on the gamepad.

Regarding Homebrew I only install relatively tame stuff. Emulators, ports of old games, a media player, gecko OS for import games and Riivolution for NSMBW ans SSBB mods.

Hello,

I've got a weird problem with Riivolution on my WiiU. I did manage to install it before, however it seems riivolution's custom channel disappeared since then. So I reinstalled it with Smash Stack.

However now when I try to launch it, I've got a message saying IOS37 needs to be downgraded. I let it do so, but then I've got this message :

Installing...
Error installing ticket (-1017)
The installation did not complete successfully.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong and I can't find any recent mention of this problem (I could find a few but with older riivolution versions). I'm using the latest Riivolution (v1.05).

I still can use HBC and other homebrew apps with no problem. Any idea what could cause this, and is there a (relatively safe) workaround?

It works on PAL versions, there was an "unofficial" (i.e. not by original dev) port to PAL and Japan versions of the game. That statement on the Wiki must never have been updated to reflect this. I have fixed that now.

Since reading through some stuff, I've noticed that it apparently only works with ntsc versions, but then I saw somewhere that it now works on pal versions, which is it, works or doesn't?
I'll be using the pal version btw

Yeah the only game I have is brawl and I can't seem to get it working.
I'm using a 2gb micro sd, is that likely the problem?
I mean the WiiU and vWii both detect the card but it won't allow me to copy anything back or forth from stage editor in SSBB

Edit: As I have a feeling I'm right, could someone tell me exactly which type of sd card to buy. Thanks in advance.

Also note that you cannot use Letterbomb on a Wii U vWii. You need a recent game exploit.

Yes, it's safe. The absolute worst thing that could possibly happen is the vWii part of the WiiU not functioning correctly. Anything outside of the vWii sandbox cannot be modified in any way.

Also, you can easily access the Wii Shop Channel and also have homebrew on a regular Wii.

Hi everyone.

If I go to Wii mode on my WiiU and softmod it with letterbomb or something, is there any chance it can break my WiiU, or would it just damage the Wii part of it?

I've successfully softmodded 2 Wiis, but the second one ended up not being able to boot GC games from the disk channel (think it had something to do with diosmios), that doesn't matter anyway I don't plan to play GC backups.
Main issue was being unable to use the wii shop channel. this is what I don't want to happen with my WiiU/eShop, because that's where I buy my WiiU games.

So long story short: Is it completely safe to softmod the Wii part of a WiiU?
