I believe that there is no such thing as absolute truth... What do you think?

I would love to. Unfortunately, I dont understand what you mean by absolute truth. I would appreciate a definition please.

Truth is something that is fact...

and it must be proven.

But an interesting part of the conversation would be defining a better definition of truth...

Truth is truth. While each man may hold his own conclusion about an event to be the truth, the facts of the event are the absolute truth, not said mans opinion.

Does that make sense?

My claim is that I believe that there is NO truth. Everything we think is truth is actually a belief and not fact. Nothing can be proven.

no, there is no proof...

philosophically, I could be completely nuts, and all of this is in my head. Or this is one big dream.
Basically, I can not prove that I exist.
This is why Descartes came to the conclusion "I think, therefore I am." proving his own existence.

I happen to disagree with him, however.

Absolute truth, eh?

Present me with an absolute language and I can use it to construct an absolute truth. Until then, truth is social in nature, and hence relative.

I do not necessarily refute the possibility of absolute language. For instance, one might argue that the physical laws are the grammar of such a language. However, I don't, at present, know that language.

Sorry if that seems a cop-out, but it's the core of the problem. You can't talk about truth without language to talk about truth in.

hmm, language, I have never thought of it that way.

I think numbers are the closest things to truth, but nubers are also relative, we happen to use base 10, but 1+1 is different depending on the base you are using...

my main point was that all things we perceive as true stem of off a fundamental belief, therefore, it is not proven true, and everything we think is all just a major belief system.
