How far away are you supposed to be able to go from the sensor bar? On Nintendo.com, it says you're supposed to be able to go like 15 feeet. For me, i can only go about 4 feet away. How about anybody else? How far away can you go??

Sorry i this is in the wrong section,a mod can move it.:)

I can have it connected from any room in the house.

i can stand 40 feet away in my house and still have it register smash attacks with the wii remote nunchuck combo in brawl. That makes my screen look soooooooooooo small. (maybe because it's only a....56 in or something? It's realyyyyyyyyy old. And weighs about as much as my DR-Z 125 dirtbike)

Hmm, i didn't seem to explain myself correctly. It can sense the commands, but the little pointer icon during any game that has it(Metroid Prime, Super mario galaxy, Wii Menu) it spazzes and can't be sensed unless its like 4 feet away.

ummmm, nope, that doesn't happen to me on the wii menu until i get like.....30 feet away? And there's a big chair partially in the way when im more than about 15 feet away. Try the calibration thing in settings

Yeah, i have, and its been like this for about a year now. i've gotten used to it, but i was just wondering if i might need a new sensor bar or something. thanks anyways. :)

oooooohhhh.... I've had my Wii since 12/2008 and it took me 3 months to figure out the calibration stuff so i don't know. But it is fun to play World At War online when in a plush chair

the wiimote doesn't connect to the sensor bar...the sensor bar actually doesn't sense anything! It just emmits 2 led lights, and the sensor on the wiimote connects to the Wii

all the little cord is for is power...

When i say its been happening for about a year, i mean it didn't used to do this. i'vve had my wii since it first came out, and all of a sudden it stopped working. don't know why lol.

Did you change any lights?
As Dr Lucky explained, the sensor emits (infrared) light, and the Wiimote sees that light.
Your Wiimote might be catching other light sources (candles, hot bulbs, other hot devices, some other kind of lights).
Use the sensivity option in the system menu, to check what the Wiimote sees.
It should see 2 light sources from the sensor bar, and nothing else.

That doesn't use the sensor bar at all. Afaik no part of brawl uses the sensor bar.
The Smash attack (moving the wiimote quickly) is detected by the accelerometer in the WiiMote.

Basicly, the sensor bar is only needed for pointing.
(in a more complex way, it can assist any motion detection)

Lol no, i haven't changed any lights. I have a couple TVs in my house, and the wii gets moved around sometimes, and it acts the same no matter what, even if i have no other lights on.

Edit: for some reason, it said i quoted daniel_c_w. :/

Take a picture of your sensor bar while the Wii is on and see how many different lights you should see.
Should look something like this:

O o o o (lots of space here) o o o O

That looks right... Could your wire be frayed anywhere, causing intermittent supply?
Re: Sensor Bar

No, i don't believe so. Maybe its just a faulty sensor bar. :(
