Missed that - thanks :-)

Bias though: "very narrow limitation"
Two adverbs - yikes :O
Lol, two adverbs is big for a company like nintendo....and 2 syllables each!! :O

Edit: Sorry, an adverb and an adjective. I wasn't paying enough attention...lol

They do say that you can make a backup of your games though:

Quote
Nintendo Legal Site
The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic.

yet they later go on to say that the hardware allowing this copying (for older, cartridge based systems anyway) are illegal (if they also meant the Gamecube and Wii, specific models of LG DVD drives, and the drive in the Wii would also be illegal)

Quote
Nintendo Legal Site
Are Game Copying Devices Illegal?

Yes. Game copiers enable users to illegally copy video game software onto floppy disks, writeable compact disks or the hard drive of a personal computer. They enable the user to make, play and distribute illegal copies of video game software which violates Nintendo's copyrights and trademarks. These devices also allow for the uploading and downloading of ROMs to and from the Internet. Based upon the functions of these devices, they are illegal.

EDIT: added the contradictory text

No: one adverb, one adjective

Also, would extracting the rom from a VC game count as a legal backup method? Perhaps not, given that we don't technically "own" VC games.

Good point. I guess you only have the right to play the ROM, but you don't actually own it. Which is not the same case when you consider old game cartridges... Even because at the cartridge era, rules and the way of think were different...

Anyway, unless you're truly an paranoid, backuping VC games sounds dumb, for me. You can always download it again from the Shop Channel, with no hassle at all.

The purpose of the rom extraction would be to use in an emulator.
