Let's say you had a 100% foolproof way to write files to NAND. Would you be able to install titles simply by throwing them on to the NAND? (with all of the proper files and such)

No, they would need to be encrypted with the NAND key first (if that didn't count as the "foolproof" way). Otherwise, all it'd need otherwise is the Ticket. Correct me if I'm wrong, but WAD is just a package format like deb.

You mean the console key.

WADs include the ticket, I think.

WADs do indeed include tickets, and that's why NUSD is legal, because it will leave out the tickets of WW/VC games it downloads, so they cant be installed with a WAD installer.

You would need the contents to be signed with the Wii's indivdual keys I think (not 100% sure about what exactly needs signed with what keys)

And maniac: a WAD is basically an archive file, with the content, the ticket and the TMD in it.

And you can get the keys from BootMii dumps, right?

EDIT: After a bit more research (http://hackmii.com/2008/04/keys-keys-keys/), it appears that the titles themselves are not signed on a per-Wii basis. This is good.

May I ask what this is for (a project of yours or something?)?

It might eventually be a project, but as of now, it is not.
