Possibly new hope for us?

I've read that the FCC made jailbreaking iPhones and other cell phones legal. With this in mind, would it also be possible to do the same with other electronics, as well as the Wii, so Nintendo wouldn't have to try to take us down and get TT to grind their teeth at both fans rushing them and working to counter-act Nintendo's counter?

Since when was jailbreaking not legal? Also, homebrew is legal as well so either way Nintendo would take preventative measures. What you're asking really doesn't make sense.

Well, the FCC also said that customers can do whatever they wanted with the jailbroken device without persecution of any kind from the original provider. If that comes to Wii, with the exception of hardware modification/cIOSes, Nintendo would have to revoke the void warranties.

no, nintendo and apple aren't going to legally come after you... they never were. It's always been legal.

But they can deny or void warranties all they want. no one is going to force them to honor a warranty of an altered console.

You alter the console, that's great, you own it, but don't expect your warranty to hold... you voided it.

Same thing with some older computers/laptops/electronics. You crack open the case and break that warranty sticker... no more warranty. Perfectly within their rights.

Why would nintendo fix a brick that you made while installing non supported software on the wii? Even if you didn't use hardware mods / cIOSes? that would be stupid.

Can you image all the idiots out there that would throw caution to the wind and end up bricking the wii if they knew nintendo would fix it for free. Wiis would be piling in from all over. No way nintendo is gonna do that.

Fear of bricking forever is the only thing keeping most fail fools from doing stupid stuff!

Do what you want with your stuff... you own it, but don't expect nintendo to fix your mistakes once you've altered the wii.

No. They said they couldn't get sued etc. for jailbreaking. Not "no persecution". (And actually I believe the correct word would be prosecution). They can void warranties for whatever reason they want. Its always been legal to take a sledge hammer and smash your Wii. Doesn't mean Nintendo will give you a free Wii under warranty if you tell them you did this.
