wii 3.3E system menu version 24 and error 1017

high my friend updated his wii to 3.4, got homebrew working then he put his disc in upside down, thought it was broke (he's a noob), and then formatted the wii. (then he realised it was just the disc upsidedown)
it now says 3.3E.
when i downgraded it said on screen that this wii is using sytem menu version (24) and it has only been tested up to 22 and may not work if i try it is at my own risk...
think i got this message using custom ios fix too...
anyway...
back at 3.3E again after formatting again...
i can get the twilight hack to boot cios uninstaller (said deleted all cios successfully) but not the homebrew channel or cios ver7 and am worried the nintendo update was a permanent fix... any help please.
also if it any help the homebrew returns an error -1 failure cannot load boot.dol or boot.elf error -1017
I am not new to homebrew and have 2 other softmodded wii's myself that work perfectly both on 3.3E.

homebrew channel loaded perfectly though when it was at 3.4 using the beta2.dol
