MPlayer CE 3 and mkv files

I can play mkv file format on this wonderful app but seem to have a problem with a converted Bluray/mkv rip...seems to freeze up. Possible setting I am missing? Anyone else with similiar problems that could throw a bone my way?

my guess is that the Wii can not handle that high quality video...try to convert it down to a lower bitrate and/or video scale
