Does anyone know if above ever happend?
or any other solution out there?

It never fully happened. Davyg had some prototype software for 2 keyboards, I think. We talked about it a bit on IRC. But it never got into the final thing.

I only have a single USB keyboard myself, so I'd have a hard time trying to build it.

Have plenty of USB keyboards but no programmings skills =/
Did Davyg ever make it work? I understand by final I guess you mean it never became something in the standard keyboard library.
Is there some "maybe" working versions somewhere?
