MPlayer support for other formats?

MPlayer support for other formats?
December 11, 2008 09:08AM
AVI is used a lot less than it was a few years back, now most high quality videos are coming in Matroska files (MKV). Is it possible that the MPlayer for the Wii would be able to play these files? Supporting codecs such as h264 and x264?

Also, I tried playing an x264 video file compressed in an AVI container and I get the error that I always do when trying to play non-supported files. So what exactly are the codecs supported in this software? Thanks.

I always play MKV files with h264 and AAC.All 3 players support it.You are having problems becuase AVI container does not support the h264 very well.So just try to put your video and audio in MKV when you are playing h264 and AAC and that should be fine.

I don't know what is it that you're doing but no matter what I do, my MKV-h264 files just won't play. I tried several different ones from different sources, all which have failed with the "Exception (DSI) occurred!" error, followed by a bunch of numbers and codes.

Did you try using all of the 3 players or using an older version of the players?I sometimes got an error with mplayer Wii version 0.07 but with 0.06 it played fine. Do your other files play fine(DivX,XviD)?

I'm using the latest version, 0.07, and yes, tried with all 3 players and it just won't play but just get paragraphs of numbers and codes.
AVI Xvid/DivX play completely fine, no problems whatsoever. But like I said, videos compressed in x264 in an AVI container won't play either. I don't know how to get version 0.06.

Here is the version 0.06

[ronwarez.com]

I'm not sure what the problem is. Yesterday i converted Anime from my DVD using MeGui ( h264 [x264] an AAC) an it played fine. The only format that MPlayer-Wii and MPlayer did not support, for me, was RMVB (though GeeXBox supported it).

Try the 0.06 version and see what happens.

Alright, first, thanks for helping.

I just used this 0.6 version that you gave me of MPlayer Wii, technically, I am able to play H264 videos in MKV container, however, only the sound will actually play. The sound is clear while it is impossible to recognize anything on screen as I would get distorted lines and no actual video will play.

I still do not know what the problem here might be, but I really hope this changes in a future update.

I guess that is the problem.

I guess it doesn't. Nothing to do but wait for a future update, perhaps v1.0?
