hrm. plays movies no problem, but if i wanted to put home video onto a disc i would just need to change the booktype to dvd-rom to make it compatible?

I don't know about that, I don't need DVDx so I have never tried it.

it would be nice to not have to switch between [wii & dvd player] units when watching videos or at least to have the option to do it from the wii..

hrm...

Do note the read speed of DVDx with movies sucks. I couldn't keep Animusic from being super choppy. Don't get me wrong, I love the DVDx library, just not the movie aspect and since I have many other players I am not at a loss on what to do ;)

If you want to play home movies, I would suggest just using a USB hard drive since it would probably be faster.

Either that or burning them as a Video DVD

My DVDs play at full speed! They are a little choppy sometimes, but never slow!
