Wii Fit Board as Mail (or Other) Weighing scale?

Wii Fit Board as Mail (or Other) Weighing scale?
April 04, 2009 03:42AM
This may be silly, but I was wondering if there was a app to use the Wii Fit board as a weighing scale. I would like to use the board kind of like a mail scale... no, exactly like a mail scale for estimating shipping on items I am going to post on ebay.

If there is something like that out there I would love to know,

Thanks in advane

Does anybody else have a need for this?

As silly as it sounds, this could be very useful. Though, I think the hard part is someone would have to come up with an algorithm to find the weight by how much pressure is applied.

I think the idea is great, but I do not have access to a WiiFit board.

And I won't buy one.

Actually, based on the cryptic message on the bottom of the balance board (NOT LEGAL FOR TRADE), that would be illegal.

Finding an algorithm should not be hard at all. If you now how much pressure is applied on an area which also is known. Then the object would be of mass m, according to the following equation.

m = p * A / g

where
m is the mass in kg,
p is the total applied pressure on the wii fit board in Pa (Pascal),
A is the area of where the pressure is measured in m2, and
g is the gravitational acceleration (=some value within 9.78 and 9.82 Nm/s (Newton meters / second) at Earth's surface depending on the location on the globe).

No idea. That's just my interpretation of that cryptic message (that it can't be used for shipping/legal business).

I'm sure it is not to be used for legal purposes, for anything that relies on a proper weight (post-office, shops).
But for home uses it is fine.

This shouldn't be a problem at all, because the shipper will weight it again.

Ask and ye shall receive

[agoajm.googlepages.com]

It will give you the weight in Kilograms, Pounds, Newtons, Stones, and Kinn!

Could you place this on WiiBrew?

If not, with your permission, I'd be willing to do it for you.

doesnt wii fit already have a weighing system in the game ? When you first start the game and choose your mii, it weighs you before you start....

but i guess instead of booting up the game and picking your mii... why waste seconds right ?

It's possible you could somehow have a board, but not the game. Besides, a dedicated app could be more versatile - just think of all the times you've needed to know your weight in Newtons, but were out of luck because the bathroom scale industry continues to ignore this potential market!

"Ask and ye shall receive"... if only that worked for every request made here...

Not yet, I'd want to clean it up and add a real calibration.
