Homebrew Channel autobooting an app

Coming from here: -

I understand that as of now there is no way to have the HBC
autoboot a certain application. More precisely, I'd like to push
my Wii's power button and have mplayer play some mp3 or net radio.
(I know that that also requires some automation in mplayer but that's
another story.)

So first off, obviously I'd be just too happy if someone proves me wrong,
so please speak up :-)

Since I still believe this must be function a lot of people
could use - is there anyone around in this place who can change
that, perhaps in the next release?

As I said in the other thread, most people use HBC to launch more than 1 app, so this is useless. This would turn HBC into a forwarder channel, which is NOT what it is. It would defeat the whole point of HBC - to allow you to load ALL your homebrew apps.

EDIT: Just realised that post never appeared in the other thread. I definetly posted it though...

EDIT: Oh, its there now.

Failing logic here is : you push the power button and open media player... how will you play games? Maybe you got a spare wii then I guess it's normal.

The best thing you can get is a custom ppc dol for bootmii which does the thing you say, configurable editing the config file of that said loader. No such tool exist by the way. Closest thing you can get is the preloader's autoboot option and a little bit farther Crazy Intro as I said in the other thread.

That is actually a very good point. Wii isn't a media player - its a games console. Media playing is just a nice little extra you can get. But because its not a dedicated media player, it isnt as good as one would be. If you want a media player, buy one, not a Wii.

Well I was more thinking along the lines of a time-out style autoboot,
very similar to what bootmii does. Like "boot this app if I don't press
this or that button". I'm talking an optional feature here. Just because
you don't need it doesn't mean other people don't want it.

This is no good argument, the point of homebrew is to make
more of the Wii than just being a game console.

Here's what I do with my Wii:
- play some games
- play some videos
- play some mp3 or radio

For the latter I just don't want to turn on my TV set. Don't
tell my this is a bad use of the Wii - it's a perfect use for
such a low-power energy (and eye-) friendly box.
