We do not really know what is the issue, but the imho the following facts strongly suggest, that the Wii has a "shitty" drive.
-The drive is from the same manufacturer, that created the GameCubes drive.
-Both make clicking noises
-The Gamecube drives had a bad reputation. Not as well known like the Xbox's RROD, but back in the day I had not hard time to find people who get the default error message
-Brawl is the first (and only?) game to be on a dual layer DVD.
-Some Wiis couldn't read Brawl at all
-Nintendo offers free repairs for that issue

Yes, this is all correct. Metroid Prime: Trilogy is the second dual layer DVD to my knowledge.

I had the same issue when I got Brawl and I sent it in for a fix, out of warranty and it was repaired for free.

They've repaired it, I've had to pay 74€ because my Wii was out of warranty. I'm waiting for them to send it back.

Cool i guess that means there are no worries about being charged almost the price of a new wii if you have homebrew....

i thought with ATD there still are traces of homebrew in the wii.
the message board if you ran an older version of HBC still says you played homebrew channel 6 hours today.
if you had preloader, you got a few files left. even if you install a new system menu, the hacks and renamed system menu are still there, right?

seems to me the homebrew software is bursting with the wii lenses...
even now, how the homebrew, makes it possible to read burn backup games or iso on sd card, I think it forces the software console itself to read that, (or chip) and as such thing cause some serious damage on lenses right?

Thank you all, and hope you continue with good work.
howbrew software it seems to me, high quality stuff, but lets us know how it works exactly on wii consoles.

Regards to you all.

LOL xD

Welcome to WiiBrew and let me be the first one to scold you.

You are breaking several rules here:

1) Discussion of Backups and Piracy is not allowed in these forums.
2) Homebrew is different from loading backups (And this is something important you need to understand!)
3) This thread is more than 1 year old. You should not revive such old threads since everything in the WiiScene gets outdated very soon. Create a new one instead.

And for your information:

3) Physical Mod-Chips cause extra stress on the lenses of the consoles, which shortens their lifespan. There is no way any software can put more stress on a lens.
4) The DVD drive in the new Wii's only read original DVD's.
5) If you want to know how homebrew (and by homebrew I mean homemade apps) work in the Wii, visit and read through [www.wiibrew.org]

Thank you
