Yes, you installed illegal WADs using vulnerable IOSs leftover from previous haxx. Congratulations. This will not work on 4.2 Wiis not previously exposed to homebrew or previously hacked wiis that never had their IOSs raped.

I got something to tell you Arikado:

I tried the StackSmash method that worked, and the HackMii Installer tells that the IOS is not found after I updated my Wii console by mistake. So it can't continue for now....

I ain't updating to anything higher than 4.2 anymore. That's my last update for good.

I have not read a single in post in this topic at time of writing. I am too busy - sorry.

Instead, I've read all of the currently available information and talked to some people so here is my obligatory summary:

Bannerbomb: No longer works ATM. This may be fixable. In the meantime, use Smashstack or Indiana PWns instead.

Homebrew Channel: Is deleted if you update. Can no longer be installed. If I correctly understand why this is, this will take less than 2 seconds to fix.

DVDX: Ditto Homebrew Channel

BootMii: BootMii (as either an IOS or boot2) is deleted and can not be reinstalled. The IOS version should be very simple to fix. This may mean the end for the boot2 install though...

I think the boot2 installation is just about the boot1 bug.

yeah the boot2 install uses the bug in boot1 right?
Replace the new boot2 maybe?

There's a new post on Hackmii about the update, and a new installer was just released.

Where makes you think that?

Edit: @scanff:

Some guy made a comment on the nintendo support forums about how nintendo was bricking people's wiis because they had homebrew, and his comment was deleted.

It’s really sad, but that wasn’t exaggerated at all. The first reports about bricks due to this official boot2 update are reported on Nintendo’s forums. Replies, which Ninty doesn’t like, are getting deleted. Anyway, it’s up to you if you want to risk it.

There was a comment on HackMii from marcan, giving three reasons you shouldnt dump HBC as a WAD, edit the title id, and reinstall it. Something along the lines of 1)breaks return to loader 2)an official fix wil be out soon 3) ours is much funnier than yours.

I have since found out it is apparently JODI, but I dont really get it...

EDIT: Here's the comment:

1) it’s stupid, 2) it’s unsupported, 3) will get you dupes/scamscreens/other issues, 4) we’ve already come up with a new Title ID and are building a proper update, 5) ours is much funnier than yours

Bricked wiis possibly not much related to boot2 update... There are reports of wiis bricked with error 003 which are region converted wiis, mostly korean->pal, korean->ntsc

You can now install homebrew on 4.2

Use Indiana Pwns or Smashstack to run the updated hackmii installer v0.5.

All deleted homebrew can be successfully reinstalled.

It is still recommended that you DO NOT update to 4.2 You CAN update or install homebrew WITHOUT updating to 4.2

TYVM, Arikado. I am so keeping the Homebrew Channel for good on 4.2. I will decline future updates to the Wii System!

Wow! It's been a few months since I've posted or even read anything here or about HBC in general (I've been VERY busy these past few months)! Anyway, as soon as I saw my Wii's blue pulsating light and read the upadate message, I knew to pretend that the 'Update' button wasn't there and check here first to see what's going on. I figured, based on Nintendo's wording, that the new update would probably try to get rid of HBC and I confirmed that here. After doing that little bit of research, I have a couple of questions (feel free to jump in, Arikado):

1) What are Indiana Pwns and SmashStack?
2) What can I do (if anything) to keep my beloved HBC on my 4.1U Wii and then update to 4.2?

Any and all answers are appreciated!

You should add that people should still not update to 4.2 under any circumstances, if they didn't already by accident.
Your post sounds a bit like: "It's safe to install 4.2 now!", which it is not.

Don’t update. Seriously.

On a different note: I just realized that 4.2 is most likely the reason, why people who paid for the now free Internet Channel, have to wait till the end of october to get their free NES game. -> [forum.wiibrew.org]
They want everyone to install their crappy Anti-Homebrew update first.
No 4.2 = no up to date shop channel = no free game.

I was wondering right away what the reason for such a delay could be, because there actually is none.
Now we have the answer.

What is the best way to update only the shop channel, without installing 4.2 right now?
The Wiki says either WiiSCU [wiibrew.org] or the Wii Shop and IOS61 installer [wiibrew.org]

Has anyone tried yet?
