Here's a simpler, user-friendly version of the problem:

Updating to 4.2 or, as I call it, 4.11/2 (the NSMBWii update) is practically jumping over fire.

Clown = You and your Wii
Start = 4.1 and lower
Fire = Update
Old Homebrew and other hacks = Ice
New Homebrew and other hacks = Rocks
Goal = 4.2 or 4.11/2

Now here's the problem.

The Clown jumps from the Start to the Goal.

Conclusion 1: Successful jump while holding Rocks

The Clown jumps over the Fire and arrives at the Goal with his Rocks.

Conclusion 2: Successful jump while holding Ice

The Clown jumps over the Fire and arrives at the Goal, but his Ice melts.

Conclusion 3: Failure

The Clown jumps over the Fire and doesn't make it to the Goal, therefore landing on the Fire and dying.

Conclusion 4: Withdrawl

The Clown decides not to jump and wait until the Fire is extinguished.

Now replace the nouns.

Conclusion 2: Success with Ice

The Clown jumps over the Fire and arrives at the Goal, but his Ice melts.
Contradiction.
And depending on what you consider "old hacks" may make whatever point you were attempting to make false.

But I digress, you do seem to have a good understanding of updating.

I meant old IDs, like HAXX for HBC and DVDX for, well, DVDX.

The contradiction is in you cant have success with ice if your ice melts.

But yes, besides the contradiction, you're statement holds true.

Ok, got ya, what I meant with Success was making it to the Goal on itself, unrelated to the Ice.

I believe in my opinion that backing up your games incase the unthinkable happens is o.k (Not legal but hey) weather everyone else believes the same way I do is up for debate. Any way one question my wii is not connected to the internet but I still have to update my wii now and again to play a new game such as wii sports resort that didn't attack homebrew but do you think other updates through games like that will eventually end up damaging homebrew??? If the answer is yes I believe the only way to be safe is to have one wii for hacking and all that stuff and the other for playing online, as expensive as that may be that is the only true way to not get caught up with nintendos updates.

You can just run games through Gecko OS, and you shouldn't ever have to worry about problems with updates.

Lies.

Some games Wii Sports Resort for Ex. can't play without updates, EVEN when they are run on Gecko OS.

They will give a blue screen Saying something like:

Quote
Error #002
Please remove the disc and turn off your Nintendo Wii.
For more information, refer to the Wii's Operation Manual

Well, yes, but Gecko OS will offer to install the necessary updates for you.

@Arikado

Well, either my Gecko OS is outdated or something happened because it didn't offer to install the updates.
Re: -- Wii System Update 4.2 Mega Topic -- 003 error fix?
November 26, 2009 08:00AM
Hi All,

My partner's dad just got her a wii from overseas for her birthday. Inside the box was a little paper in non-english writing and then "SOFTCHIP".
She played 2 games, went to the wii shop and updated it to 4.2 firmware.
It now says "003 unauthorized use..." :(

After some research on the net to understand a little more about the wii (never used one before), I can tell you that;

It will not get past that error (black screen, white 003 error)
I cannot get into HBC if it is installed...
It seems as though it is a Korean console (serial starting with LKM)
I tried the 'hold reset while powering on' and it doesn't do anything
I used a GC controller, pressing all 4 directional buttons and it bypasses the error but then displays a black screen with "4.2(USA)" on the bottom right corner.

Apparently, you can change the title ids to dvdx and the HBC to fix this. No idea how this could be achieved.
I have also heard this is un-fixable until a 4.3 game comes out.

What can I try to get it to load again? If you do have any solutions please explain in detail as you are speaking to someone new at touching a Wii.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

I'd bet on the first one.

dtenen:
It sounds like your console may have a hardware modification chip installed that is messing everything up.

@dtenen:

Is your Wii ported to play NTSC games? That could be the problem.

@dtenen: The problem is it is a Korean wii region changed to USA firmware, and on 4.2 that means it will not work. Seeing as she did an official update, it isnt possible to fix as she doesn't have trucha bug anymore. Sorry.
