I jsut bought new supe rmario bros and i used Gecko os 1.8.1 to bypass the update.
IT worked fine. Im on systme menu 3.2 btw. Just make sure u have ios 38,53,55,56(for wii speak).

works great on 3.2U. Remeber U never have to update.

I, too, bought NSMBW. Awaiting advice.
I'm on System Menu 4.0U with HBC 1.0.6, Bootmii installed as boot2 and Gecko OS 1.9.2.

Will Gecko OS bypass the update? I've heard rumors of NSMBW installing a stubbed IOS when ran through Gecko, resulting in a brick Link removed.

If I update through the disc, what will happen?

Gecko will install only the IOS NSMB needs to run if you don't have any version of it. If you have any version of that IOS, Gecko will not install it, and it will not install any other IOS ever.

I been playing it with no probem. U could always use an older version of gecko os that does not install anything. if your are worried

Is there any other way to bypass the update? I mean i have no problem with using Gecko OS but it can get really annoying having to boot it up every single time I want to play NSMBWii. (Or any new games for that matter.)

Startpatch

If I install a patched IOS 36 for the reboot with hooks option in gecko OS will NSMBW find it and replace it? I don't want to only be able to run it in gecko OS because I have siblings who play my Wii without my permission.
EDIT: Will NSMBW find the patched IOS and update that? I don't think I used the correct term for that.

Gecko OS hooks only last until power off. So you still need to run Gecko OS first every time. If you want it permanently, go with StartPatch as Arikado suggested.

EDIT: And no, it will not touch your patched IOS36. You use that to install the patches in StartPatch, and then NSMB will boot without touching any IOS or System Menu or anything.

Well I am updated to 4.2U I just don't want to get a patched IOS 36 for gecko OS then reinstall it after everytime my siblings play a game.

um, wut? You wont need to reinstall IOS36 every time your siblings play the game. as long as its the latest version of IOS36 that you have patched, it wont be overwritten by NSMB.

How will I be able to make sure I have the latest version of a patched IOS 36 will an app like I think truchabug restorer automatically download the latest version?

We don't support that app here so please don't talk about that here. Thanks.

Dop-IOS MOD will do what you want though.

if you patched IOS36 with the latest version of that app, you have the latest version of IOS36. Otherwise, get dop-IOS MOD and use it to update IOS36, applying the patches.

Okay so I should stay away from that app and use dop-IOS MOD. also how easy is dop-IOS MOD to use?

Very easy. :)

Edit: Come to think of it, I can't even think of an app that's hard to use. lol

So, just to confirm a few things:

-Updating from Nsmb won't destroy our systems or have some sort of painful side effects
-It installs 4.1 and NOT 4.2
-It's safe to update OVER ALL

someone answer this ASAp, I'm kinda freakin out.

1. Updating from NSMB will not destroy your system.
2. It installs System Menu 4.1 with all the 4.2 IOSes and Boot2 v4
3. Its perfectly safe unless you plan on playing jump rope with your power cord.

BTW, the update apparently lasts about 10 seconds, so unless you lose power at just the wrong time, you will be absolutely fine.
