Homebrew does not affect online gaming itself. Nintendo states that should they learn you have unauthorised devices/software, they have the right to ban you from services, such as online play. However, I have not heard of anybody being banned as of yet

Also realize that Nintendo does not own COD 5. So I don't believe Nintendo could legally ban you from playing it.

You can only play games owned by ninteno online?

Do you think they'd really sell a game, advertising it as online play, if you weren't allowed to play it online?!

What Arikado is saying is that Nintendo will only be able to ban you from their network services. If the game is written by somebody else and doesn't use Nintendo's servers or network service, you should still be able to play the game online even if Nintendo ban you from their network

I guess (!) it uses the NWC somehow to atleast generate and check friendcodes. Maybe the game even refuses to be used online if it can't connect to the NWC

Not every online wii game uses friend codes. I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple third party ones that don't.

Madden 08 (and I'm pretty sure 09 as well) and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 don't use friend codes.
