Can't play DVDs

I've tried everything and just can't seem to get my Wii to read any DVDs. I have a newer red Wii and am running v4.1u with HBC v1.0.8 on IOS58 v24.32. Should I put my system back to v4.3 and reinstall HBC? Any help would be appreciated.

New Wii's can only read official Nintendo pressed discs.

No, not that I know of. The disc drive just refuses to read other DVDs.

the only way to play dvds is either get an old dvd drive and put it on your wii or get an old wii model..

hi i have a white wii updated to 4.3,i installed the v0.8 installer and homebrew channel and when i did it gave me no option to install dvdx,it installed homebrew and bootmii,so i was looking for help to get dvd to work.its about a couple years old.please much appreciated if someone could help me out with this

You don't need DVDX anymore.

what do i use with the homebrew 4.3 installed then??

Apps that can play DVDs will "just work" (its more complicated than that behind the scenes, but you don't need to worry about that). Provided the application (e.g. WiiMC) is launched through HBC (or another supported homebrew loader), DVDs will work.
