4.1 update to unbrick a 4.0 Wii using Savemii?

For a bricked 4.0 Wii, now that 4.1(J) has been released, will it be possible to use Savemii to get to the recovery menu, then use a burnt disc containing a 4.1 update to unbrick it?
I'm still not clear on 4.0's ability to boot an update disc. Will a modchip make a difference? Or will I just have to wait for a retail game to come out containing a 4.1 update?
I'm hoping it may fix my brick [forums.whirlpool.net.au]
since I can get into the recovery menu and the discs spin up. And sometimes my 'press A' screen still comes up on boot.

A side question, has the 4.1 update made Bootmii or HBC no longer work?

According to the Wiibrew page, it only affects Copy-prohibited savegames. Everything else seems to work as well, as it did in 4.0

Ok that is good news. Is there any chance the 4.1U or 4.1E updates will differ to 4.1J?

The only difference, everything will be in Japanese.
And all your games from your current region wont work (not 100% sure on that).
Also, you will get a semi-brick.

It's probably possible to downgrade (to your own region) afterwards

I shoulds have been clearer in my original post. Of course anyone not on 4.1J will have to wait until 4.1 in their matching region is released - if it is.

I got semi-bricked through ARC once (3.2j -> 3.2u) and games still worked
