Failed SysMenu update, bricked with BootMii in boot2
November 10, 2009 11:37PM
Long story short, while updating the sysmenu with wadmanager there was an error. Now, after I get past bootmii I get a black screen. I don't have a nand backup as there was some problems making one before (turned out to be my sd card, probably the cause for the corrupted sysmenu wad as well). I can now make one, which is not usefull, but I can also restore. My brother has a wii he bought at the same time as me, so I should be able to use betwiin to convert his nand image and flash mine with it.

EDIT: SaveMiiFrii also doesn't work. Using a GameStop branded controller.

I have two questions.

1) Is there any better way to do this?

2) Will this work?

1) None that we can talk about here

2) It should work as long as your brother's wii has the same boot1 version and the same or newer version of boot2 as your wii.

Can you run homebrew through bootmii? Or is that screwed up as well?

If you can boot HBC via BootMii, do so, and run dop-IOS MOD and use it to reinstall your System Menu.

I have fixed the problem using what I assume is not to be mentioned. I assume that it's not to be mentioned since it isn't in the wiki.

As for the rest of your questions... I was not able to boot into HBC, both options gave me black screens. After booting via the forbidden tool, I updated the HBC and then I used the system update, which allowed me to boot normally once again.

Thanks for all of your help.

Yes, what you assume is not mentionable here is indeed not mentionable here (i'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about). But I'm glad you fixed your issues.

Because it can be used for piracy.

Actually its illegal, because it redistributes a patched IOS, which it then loads into memory and runs the app off. And the piracy uses are also an issue.

Actually, its mainly cause of the dev.
I assure you it's not. The reasoning is that it can be used for purposes involving piracy and there's technically nothing unique it can do for (legal) Wii recovery that can't also be done by existing tools.
