Can't get HBC to list apps from USB HD
October 11, 2009 05:17AM
I tried leaving the SD card out of the Wii, but even so, the Homebrew Channel won't list apps from my 1TB SeaGate FreeAgent hard drive. I put them in an /apps folder in the root directory with the same structure as on the SD card. Does anybody know what my problem is and whether there's a way to fix it? The "USB device" button does light up when I plug the HD into the Wii, by the way. Incidentally, I can't get other apps (MPlayer CE, Homebrew Browser) to read anything off of the HD either.

Your Hard Drive probabbly isn't supported by the Homebrew Channel. Why do you need a Hard Drive anyway?

Is the hard drive's partion NTFS? It has to be FAT for it to work.

Okay, it is NTFS, I'll try reformatting it, thanks.

"Why do I need a hard drive?" It would be really convenient, that's all. I don't want to have to go out and buy another SD card (I'm using the one I've got for other stuff) if I could just use my HD.

Edit: formatting as FAT32 fixed my problem. Thanks for the help.

You could have a single partition for HBC apps (FAT32) and other for computer stuff. (NTFS) So the 4GB filesize limit won't get on the way.
