Bootmii and NAND Backup

Hi, i just bought my Wii 3 days ago, so i'm new to this "world".
A friend of mine told me it's possible to hack a Wii and run games directly form an external hard disk.
I searched how to do so, but i'm stuck now: what's keeping me from going further is the possibility to brick my new Wii.

All works fine, but i can only install BootMii as an IOS (as in the picture at point 7 of the guide).
Like it's written in the guide, if i keep this setup i get no protection against any brick, because i wouldn't get any NAND backup.
From what i've read in these days, BootMii can recover any brick, but since i can't get it's protection i don't want to risk. I read about the Preloader, but i couldn't understand if it's like BootMii.
So this is my question: is there any other "program" which can make a NAND backup like BootMii, and recover my Wii from any brick?

That's illegal and isn't to be discussed on our forums.

Nothing can give you the same level of protection as BootMii as boot2.
