Is it safe to update?

I have not updated my wii since i got hbc, and that was at least a year and a half ago. Im not sure how to get my main channels to work like SC, EVC and NC....I have read that people are updating there wii with wii update that comes with MH3.. I think its 4.2. Should i do this? any risks, Is there another way? Will HBC stop working? any help would be great..

As long as you don't have any "Backup Loaders" "cIOS" or anything along those lines HBC should be fine.

Sorry for being a noob and all but could you give me an example of what "Backup Loaders" "cIOS" are?

if you don't know what they are, you probably don't have them. They're used for playing "backups" (generally pirated games), and very much against the rules here. Just update HBC to latest version (1.0.6 IIRC), and update.
