I was browing in the forms and i saw saw a post telling some guy to put a game cube controler in the 4th slot and hold down all of the d-pads butons at once. what does that do and how to do you do it when the d-pad only alows you to use one buttion at a time?

It boots the Wii into recovery mode.

You can do it by using a third party GC controller or taking the casing off of a first party one.

This is known as "Savemiifrii". it is mostly pointless if you have bootmii installed as Boot2

Whats Savemiifrii?
The name given to the gamecube controller method you stated in your first post. It was given this name since the method performs the exact same action as using a SaveMii device.

Ok, so what does it do? can you downgrade or upgrade? prevent bricks? nothing?

see http://savemii.net/troubleshooting.html to find out what it does. it does _NOT_ help you down/upgrade. it is POINTLESS with Bootmii as Boot2 installed

Then this might fix some bricks. just don't install WAD's, "Softmod" fail packages, or anything along them lines, and you will be fine.

A first party one? I don't think that is the correct term, I think you mean OEM, or not piece of junk, or maybe by naming the manufacture, something... I read it 4 times before understanding what you meant.

I thiunk it is quite clear:

First party = Nintendo
Third party = somebody else, mdacatz, bigben, etc...

both are OEMs, by the way.

I guess the most general term would be: Gamecube Controller from Nintendo.

But the first/third party terminology is common in gaming circles

True about the OEM thing. I just haven't seen first party used very often or at least in the industry that I am used to (it is known for third party replacements).

Is it a Nintendo controller that you take to parties or is it a third party controller that you glued a Big N on.

Arikado, I have a feeling that this forum is going to become off topic....
Anyways...

For "Full Bricks" (Opera error screen on boot) you can use a newer own-region game to fix it by updating.

For "Banner Bricks" ("System files are corrupted" message OR Health warning screen freeze) you can:

a) Trucha sign a disc to boot a homebrew application (AnyTitleDeleter) and fix it.
b) Burn a patched, burned Brawl disc, run it and use the upcoming "super stack smash bros" exploit if you have a newer Firmware (3.3<).

Please note that the above "Banner Brick" options both need modchips to work

"Full Bricks" are caused by messing with AnyRegionChanger then updating
"Banner Bricks" are caused by installing WAD's (the less you know about 'em, the better)

K, I dont have a mod chip, and i've got 3.3V1
Re: what does this do?

You can downgrade to 3.2 from that without using any warez fail using anyregionchanger if you 3.3v1.

4 Banner Brick, Cant you just use the maitnence mode hack and load the system menu and update?
