Go into Wii Settings (click the Wii "orb" in bottom left of system menu, then click settings) and it will be displayed in the top right corner.

You may as well update to make use of the new features of updates. 3.4 has no benefit over 4.0 or 4.1, so I'd advise just upgrade through Nintendo. If you were on 3.2, that'd be different, it has vulnerabilities 3.4 doesn't, but there aren't any vulnerabilities in 3.4 that aren't in 4.1, so just upgrade.

Piracy is not supported here. Homebrew and piracy are two seperate things, and this forum is for homebrew, not piracy. If you go down the piracy route, you're likely to brick your Wii, and also, its illegal, and we frown upon illegal activity here.

make a folder on the root of your SD card (i.e. inside no folders) called "apps" (no quotes, case sensitive). Then make a folder for each homebrew app inside the apps folder. Inside each app's individual folder, there must be a boot.dol (again, case sensitive), and usually there will be a meta.xml and an icon.png as well. I'd advise getting homebrew browser from WiiBrew wiki, and putting it on your SD card. It should be like this : apps/Homebrew Browser/boot.dol (there will also be a meta.xml and an icon.png here)

Then run HBC, and select Homebrew Browser. This will let you download new homebrew over WiFi, which is easier.
