How to safely remove Homebrew Channel?
October 05, 2010 08:30AM
I installed just HBC and Gecko to play some imports but I'm done playing them now and worried about having HBC on my Wii for no reason.

I don't want to take a Nintendo update because I want to play a newer game and end up bricking my Wii, but I also see no reason to keep updating a HBC I won't use.

I'm on 4.2U, so if I take an official update will it just erase HBC and then I'm fine? Or should I update HBC first (it's like a year old)? Or should I manually delete HBC first, or.. ?

Thank you

If you have an old version of the HBC it will be deleted by System Menu 4.3. It will NOT brick your Wii.

In other words, you have 2 choices:

If you want to keep HBC:

1) Update HBC first, to its latest version.
2) Afterwards, update your Wii to latest Menu version.
3) HBC will persist after updating.

If you don't want to keep HBC:

1) Update your Wii to latest Menu version.
2) The update will erase your current HBC.

None of the 2 choices will brick your Wii or anything similar :)
You are safe to go.
