When you are backing it up can you power off? By the speed of it, This is gonna take a month.

A month? More like 5 minutes.
Most likely your SD card will be corrupted if you poweroff during this process, but aside from that nothing major.

This should not create an issue at all. You might try another backup on a different card, no reason it should take that long.

i had the same problem, it was running for an hour and only about 10% complete. Powered off and tried again with another card and completed in under 5 mins. Remember to use at least a 1gb card, 512 will not be enough

Mine got all the way to about 60% of the bottom row of blocks then froze... left it running overnight and no movement.
