Question about BootMii and NAND usage 3.3%

I have read several stories of people who have BootMii and then get NAND usage 3.3% and are bricked. I have a few questions about this before I install BootMii, as it seems this only occurs when BootMii is installed.

Basically I would like to know, how regular an occurence is it, do we know what causes it, and can it be fixed with a NAND dump? Or is there a way to fix it at all?

It has never happenend to me and I have only ever heard of it happening to a handful of people

Well, I have have heard about 4 or 5 people on all of the Fixmii forums getting bricked that way. all of them appear to have had no prior NAND dump. It might just be Bootmii not recognising the NAND anymore (init code?)

Either way, I'd assume a NAND dump would fix it.

I got this a few weeks ago and stupidly did not have a NAND backup. I still need to try the formatter to see if I can get this Wii back up (already bought a new Wii but can't put bootmii in boot2 on it).
