Technically, its not an exploit to write to boot2 thats needed, its an exploit to allow an unsigned boot2 to work. Or else to sign an unofficial boot2. boot2 CAN be written to on any Wii afaik, but on newer Wiis it will brick.

Oh, and FYI, some pre-LU64 Wiis can't install BootMii either.
