Strange Bootmii Install Problem
September 16, 2010 04:17PM
Hey Everyone,

I'm having trouble installing bootmii and the HBC.
I can run the hackmii installer but it says i have no vulnerable IOS.
I've just installed 4.3 and have used MMM to check that i have IOS58 installed and i do.
I've previously used the trick to get MP3 NTSC working on a PAL console, and i had a total system failure on 4.2 update, which i used metroid other M to install 4.3 and fix.
I've also got a wiikey with 1.9s installed if that could also be the problem.
(I'm not asking for advice to fix if this is the problem. Just if it IS the problem)
Here are copies of my Syscheck 2.0.1 and Hackmii Installer logs.

Theres one thing in particular in the hackmii log that i don't know what it means, ill highlight it.

Most likely there is something wrong with IOS 58. Try reinstalling it.

Just did a full update to try fix it.
Corrupted my system menu and now wont load games even with autoboot and savemii.
Anyone know the price/possibility of fixing this brick? Either from Nin or 3rd party.

Although very unlikely, it is possible that you have message board data corruption (this could cause the system menu corruption, but not the issue with the homebrew channel). If this is the case, you will be able to access maintenance mode.

If this is not the case, you have two options. Either wait for a game with the 4.4 update (this will probably be quite awhile) and use SaveMii/SaveMiiFrii to install the update from the game. However, there is a possibility that this will not fix the problem. Your other option is to manually install Bootmii/boot2 with a hardware NAND programmer (this will only work if your wii is old enough to install Bootmii/boot2).

jbc007, leave your hardware NAND programmer alone... no user is going to actually do that! If any had both the knowledge and the equipment to do that, I am very sure they would not even bother in coming to ask stuff to this forum.

Have you ever done that yourself?

That's not true. It is a perfectly valid option and users may be able to do it themselves regardless of whether they ask stuff on the forums.

Sometimes, that is the only way to fix an issue. Of course, it is up do each individual user to decide whether he wishes to pursue that option, and some people do. If you look through the FixMii section long enough, you will find several topics in which wiis are fixed in the manner. Also, it may also be possible for users to have this work performed at a third party repair center.

In any case, I am just informing people of their options. I will never intentionally tell someone that a wii is impossible to fix when it really can be fixed with an Infectus.

Luckily i have a launch wii so i should be able to do that. I did know it was possible i just don't have the skills or hardware myself, nor do i know anyone that does.
I found a repair shop in Syd, Aus where i live and a few modchip installers i was going to ring and find out if they do repairs. So i was going to ask them if they could fix it for me. I rang nintendo to ask them what the situation would be if a wii came in with modifications and they said they just replace it with a new one(i was hoping they would just flash the NAND and update it if i took the chip out, but would rather not risk it). I'd rather get this one repaired and then install bootmii to stop this problem ever happening again, cause im going to modify it again.
Good to know that the bootmii via infectus option wasn't just something someone had pulled out of thin air on another board though.
Thanks for your help guys, you actually responded unlike the guys on GBA forum.
