Help Needed With Game Art For Crush The Castle

Scanff has made a clone of Crush the Castle. It isn't finished yet, though, because we need some help with the art! If anyone is interested, please respond. We already have sound and music.

Okay! We want it to look pretty good (no offense :P). Do you have any experience? I'm not exactly sure what is needed ATM, so I can't really tell you what to get started on yet. I'll see if I can get some specifications. :D

Well I've got photoshop, and I've made some pretty cool pics, nothing too advanced but it will look good if I have the time.

Great! I'm not really sure what scanff is looking for right now, but you could start making some backgrounds that are based off the original game, I guess.

Just one requirement - no ripping art from the original game, everything need to be our own :)

How big should the background be?

EDIT: Also is it alright if I use pictures I took in Ireland?

I don't really want it photo realistic, more pixel arty.

The background size should be 640x480 and the idea is to make it seamless so it wraps around. Which is useful for scrolling.

okay, could you give me an example of the type of pixely art? The backgrounds in crush the castle are more photo realistic.

Wow, this seems like a daunting task. If it were 8-bit-looking I might be able to help, but nothing like this. Maybe I'll just stick to coding. Good luck!

Well I'm no graphics artist, but I tried to make a pretty simple background for it. :P

That's awesome. Well since you have someone to make you backgrounds can I make the structure thingamabobs? If so what are the dimensions?

Sure, I guess we need blocks and characters for the game. The blocks can be various sizes but roughly a medium sized one right now is 12px by 75px. If you create any triangular shapes like roofs make sure they are a square image i.e. 50x50px, this just helps make the physics a little easier for me.

Yeah I'll be able to make more either tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll look at some of the backrounds in the game and try to mimic them.

EDIT: I've been a bit busier than I intended so new backgrounds will be later in the week
