FTP Client?

Might be a crazy idea that can't ever be done, but couldn't the Wii be made into an FTP client as a replacement for USB drives? The server would be your home PC, a folder could be set as the ftproot where whatever you want could be stored, then I imagine it would be possible to point [fail] or something to ftp:// yourserver/directory? I really have no idea how any of this works, but the ultimate goal of this would be constant immediate syncing between the Wii and PC, and the ability to keep a nice organized storage of games and homebrew apps altogether without the annoying hassle of external drives and such. What say you?
