Wi-Fi problem with xwhiite
November 09, 2010 09:55PM
After following a guide to install xwhiite (google xwhiite, first result) it's finally set up, but I can't get wireless to work. My router doesn't have WEP, WPA, or any kind of protection on it. I try to edit my /etc/network/interfaces file, but since it doesn't have any protection, I'm not sure exactly what to put. I've tried several guesses, but it won't connect. Any suggestions?

It's a belkin router, with the SSID of Bicking. It looks like this:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

     wireless-essid Bicking

I would try:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

wireless-essid Bicking
wireless-key-mgmt NONE

or
wpa-ssid Bicking
wpa-key-mgmt NONE

if configured for WPA

test with: /etc/init.d/networking restart

After tampering with it for a few days and not getting it to work, I gave it a rest, came back today, and it worked. O.o At least it's working, I guess. Thanks guys.
