Quote3DModelerManI want to update my Wii and I don''t care if the homebrew channel is deleted temporarily(there's a fix on the wiki for it). But I heard the update bricks some modded Wiis. Does HBC count? Is it safe to update? Read this thread and you will know.by SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteSteelSLasherguys is there some way of updating without having the deleting of awesomeness since id rather have a wii that looks like 4.2 than keep it as 4.1 and wait for a retard to update it "accidentally" afterwhich i pound his brains out Use the parental control to password the system update function.by SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteSifJarWiis will brick regardless of "mods" i.e homebrew. Its the buggy boot2 update code that causes bricks, nothing else. There are people with unmodified wiis that have bricked, and there are people with HBC and stuff that havent bricked. Nintendo did not design the update to brick people with homebrew, that would be ILLEGAL. They designed it to remove homebrew, but not to brick anyone. Itby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
Ah yes, thats true. Another reason not to update right now. :)by SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteswirleydudeQuestion about Wii System updates, are updates cumulative? In other words will every update in the future also include 4.2's anti-homebrew updates? Yes. And at some time it may be necessary to update. However right now: Just don't. Wait until the HackMii Developers have examined and analyzed everything. Quotenintendude 1) What are Indiana Pwns and SmashStack? 2) What can I do (if anything) to keep my beloved HBC on my 4.1U Wii and then update to 4.2? 1) -> Indiana Pwns and SmashStack are exploits which require a game. Just like the Twilight Hack required Zelda, those two need LEGO Indiana Jones and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. 2) -> First off: Don't update to 4.2. It's not woby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteArikadoYou can now install homebrew on 4.2 Use Indiana Pwns or Smashstack to run the updated hackmii installer v0.5. All deleted homebrew can be successfully reinstalled. (Posted for the benefit of those who do not read topics or internet media) You should add that people should still not update to 4.2 under any circumstances, if they didn't already by accident. Read this: Don't even think about updating. A lot of changes and possible problems of 4.2 are not even known / examined yet. It's not worth it.by SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteSifJarI thought Nintendo were kinda OK with homebrew, seeing as they've been so lax towards it so far. Nintendo was probably just too incompetent to take such measures before, judging from former updates and the "Wii Fail" Video of the 25c3 presentation, that the folks at Hackmii released: QuoteMatokingIt updates it to boot2v4 in all cases. Wow. I'm speechless. Thats a veryby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteWaxyPumpkin72The only reason they're trying to delete the HBC is because of the increasing amounts of pirates. Hundreds of n00bs are watching stupid youtube videos to see how to pirate games. Its dumb. If they would cut it out, then Nintendo probably wouldn't be trying so hard to delete the HBC. I think that even piracy is good for Nintendo's sales. Pirates need a Wii andby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteWaxyPumpkin72 As for deleting the HBC, isn't this the first time Nintendo has done this with an update? They've never actually deleted HBC, have they? Yes. 4.2 is the first update that actually attacks the Homebrew itself, instead of fixing the bugs used for installing. Nintendo is beeing an ass. :/ Afaik there was only a half-assed attempt to automaticly delete the Twilight Hby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
QuoteWaxyPumpkin72Does the update actually delete the HBC? Yeah, it deletes the Homebrew Channel. QuotewolfennightsMy Wii is safe. Just turned off WiiConnect24. QuoteWaxyPumpkin72QuoteSpyroDragon- BootMii (!) Boot2, or IOS? AFAIK, nintenod can't do anything to bootmii boot2... I'm not sure. I know that they can overwrite boot2 though, just like we do when installing BootMii. (It was just thought to be very unlikely that Nintendo actually did.) What they can't change is boot1, which contains the signing bug and is read only. Soby SpyroDragon - Homebrew General
Warning: Do NOT update to System Menu 4.2 As I don't see a topic about the System Menu 4.2 Update around here, I thought I'd go ahead and spread the bad news. This update seems to delete most Homebrew. Changes: - Deletes most homebrew, including the Homebrew Channel. - Now uses IOS70. (No Preloader due to that) - Wii Shop Channel updated. Hm.. I have to disagree. The choice of a console depends on your needs. Apparently you didn't inform yourself well enough before buying your Wii, so you are disappointed now. It is and always was obvious that the Wii is no High-End System and would have its limitations. I knew that. Ah yes, I think they replaced your drive with one of the new ones, that are said to be unmoddable! I read and bookmarked something about that a few days ago: It's said that Drivechips don't work with it anymore, but that the Drivechip manufacturers will most likely release a new, working version of their devices soon. I just saw this this on WiiBrew News: Quote1 September 09: Nintendo have released a new version of the Internet Channel. The new version offers updated flash and is free. Yeah, porting ioquake3 or the original Quake 3 would be better than Quake Live. Quake Live has blood, gibs and all heretic symbols of Quake 3 censored, which kinda takes the soul and identity of the whole game. Also, it's just not as fun. Killing an opponent who just falls to the ground is not nearly as rewarding as a good old splattery mess of blood and body parts. ;)by SpyroDragon - Ideas, requests
Quotebushing I think this pretty much sums it up. There are plenty of other message boards out there where they have entire subforums devoted to backuploaders. Are you sure that it doesn't work at all? I thought that I have the same problem, because I had the same symptoms as you. With BootMii 0.1, it always started right away.
