New Super Mario Editors Is this something this forum is going to support? or is it out 'cause right now it uses iso's to work?by swirleydude - The Junkyard
QuoteArikadoUnlike what the n00b above me suggests, what system menu you have installed is irrelevant to the loading of snes9xgx. I would try (manually) updating to the latest version if I were you. I love it when your nice to people, it gives me the warm fuzzies. If you have a config file setup to point to a smb share make sure it's correct, that's what held me up for awhile.by swirleydude - Getting Started
Considering I never sell my consoles and that I prefer using the original controllers for games, if I had a cartridge for a game I'd just throw it in it's proper system. Hope there's no hard feelings, I'm not trying to have any rules changed. I'm just bored at work and felt like starting a debate. :)by swirleydude - Offtopic
Yeah I knew that first one was a stretch, but I have never heard of a legal way to get roms. (Except maybe some Mame roms but then I thought it looked iffy)by swirleydude - Offtopic
QuoteArikadoI was only trying to point out that there are legitimate purposes for emulators that do not exist for ISO loaders or warez installers. But if hacker can already crack the data format of the Wii discs to extract banners, etc. couldn't the process be done in reverse to create homebrew iso's just like homebrew roms? Users could download large homebrew apps that require complexby swirleydude - Offtopic
QuoteAliiyou didnt have to reply, and sorry for "bugging you" but this is the noobs forum... Don't sweat it Arikado can't help it, he's just built that way. Welcome to WiiBrew!by swirleydude - Getting Started
QuoteArikadoEmulation is a science. Look at the two years it took the Wii64 team to develop Wii64! An ISO loader is 20 lines of original code combined with the work of other people (including Nintendo). It took marcan 4 hours to write one. Emulation is an art. Emulator authors must have a perfect understanding of the emulated console architecture and that of the target platform. A monkey (ie:by swirleydude - Offtopic
I understand why ISO's/backups are bad, programmers such as myself and many others here put a lot of work into making their games and deserve compensation. That being said why are ROMs okay around here (i'm guilty too before you start)? They are just the backups from a previous generation. And in most case they are still available for sale on VC. What really is the difference betby swirleydude - Offtopic
okay if we don't trust their community what if someone from wiibrew started making them? Edit: You changed your post while I was replying, I didn't mean to call out I've just seen you ban people for mentioning piracy. Can't IRC from work, stupid firewall/proxy, I'll try hitting them up later.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
Beside you can always use BootMii to make a backup before you try, that way you can rollback any mistakes.by swirleydude - Homebrew Applications
Now before Arikado goes ban happy, hear me out. The custom channel/theme community is making an honest effort to remake everything with legal base wads. I was wondering since some of those site still contain illegal content if the legal content could be cataloged here for those of us not adventurous enough to seek out the dark underbelly of homebrew. Also that way since this site is so newb frienby swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuoteSchmillEvery homebrew app 'knows' it is written for Homebrew, and I believe used to look for the title of HAXX to switch back to when it exited. I don't believe that's how it works. In the tutorial's I've been working through it's been determined by exit codes.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
If you are still having trouble after that try the suggestions in this post getting started with grrlib It helped me ;)by swirleydude - Coding
QuoteArikadoQuotewolfennightsI was able to update safely to 4.2 after also updating Homebrew Channel, but upon learning about Wiis getting bricked even if they were not hacked, I became paranoid and deleted all my Homebrew. I had heard that if your Wii bricks and you don't have Homebrew, they repair it for free, so I just took that precaution in case it DID brick. Those bricks only occur durby swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuotewolfennightsI quoted you on the Nintendo Tech Forum site. Wonder how long it will be before it is deleted. Thanks, i think, hope I never decide to program for Ninty. JK ;)by swirleydude - Homebrew General
Not sure could be that or bad download when it is first downloaded.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuotewolfennightsSo why do some Wiis brick while others don't? It happens when the update is writing to boot2, if there is any interruption (power loss, wifi loss, etc.) during the process the update will hang and when the Wii is rebooted there isn't a complete set of instructions on boot2 for it to know what to do. Thus your Wii becomes as usefull as a brick.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
You need to make sure you update BootMii also, the HBC has a new title id that the old BootMii doesn't know about.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
Someone needs to write a one-click homebrew purge app, well other then Ninty, so if we decide to risk the update Ninty will still fix our console for free.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuoteSpyroDragon QuoteTheManuelI feel a little nervous of having installed the HBC. Nintendo's incompetence is the problem, not the Homebrew Channel. You can safely have it installed. I don't he is afraid of HBC bricking his Wii. He, like I, is worried that if we update and HBC and everything else is still installed that we won't be able to get Ninty to repair our Wii's foby swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuoteMatokingBeat up your sister and put parental lock on the system updates afterward. WiiBrew neither supports nor encourages sibling abuse, unless its because of a bricked Wii. ;)by swirleydude - Getting Started
Question about Wii System updates, are updates cumulative? In other words will every update in the future also include 4.2's anti-homebrew updates? QuotepoepoogQuoteWaxyPumpkin72Lol, I don't really get it either. Probably some inside joke. :P JODI : Jodi Daugherty, Nintendo’s senior director for anti-piracy. Someone should write him a letter and let him know he help homebrew survivby swirleydude - Homebrew General
The problem is that homebrew developers are just too good at what they do. When homebrew looked like shell apps and were scary for joe user nintendo had nothing to fear. No one would ditch paying for their pretty games and channels for homebrew. But now that homebrew can rival anything nintendo can make they are concerned about their bottom line.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuoteMatokingIt updates it to boot2v4 in all cases. So it could fubar someone's wii who isn't even using homebrew. This could end up being worse then RRODby swirleydude - Homebrew General
QuoteSifJarAnd updating boot2 was a risky move, if power is lost during that update, the wii is completely bricked. Makes me wonder if it only updates boot2 if bootmii is present.by swirleydude - Homebrew General
Why can't Nintendo focus on things that would increase their market share like useful channels & hulu/internet tv support?by swirleydude - Homebrew General
Decided to just delete devkit and reinstall, that worked. P.S. This has been alot to try out a procedural library! :-Pby swirleydude - Coding
mbrim: Yes I tried your solution with no success, and when I say I've seen Crayon's name all over the site I don't mean just the forum, not to mention he is credited with both programming and documenting grrlib in the first place ;) Crayon: I am not sure, its an older install but I have used the updater in c:\devkitproby swirleydude - Coding
