I know the WiiMC forums would be the best place for this, but I just thought I'd check for help here first. I can't get vlc-shares to work (for WiiMC or my android phone). I can get the web interface on my computer to pull the UI up and adjust all the configuration options and all of the tests say "success", but WiiMC (with the onlinemedia.xml pointing to the IP address of the compuby lorddunlow - Homebrew Applications
Just a few questions: 1. Is there any benefit gained from having boot2v4? (Keep in mind, I don't ever plan on updating via an official update) 2. Is there any problems I will run into having boot2v2 on my Wii (I have BootMii installed as boot2 and StartPatch blocking of updates)? 3. My current BootMii setup will only boot to the last version of the HBC (JODI) due to the change inby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
Quotejbc007We don't need to tell people where to download roms, but as long as we support emulators, we should not take issue with someone for illegally downloading a rom. This is what has been bothering me in other threads. This forum has a tendency to crucify someone and end any useful discussion if someone just happens to mention a backup loader, or something else that may be piracy, eby lorddunlow - Offtopic
Thanks for the quick answers. I figured that was how it worked, but when I got the messages way back when it cast doubt in my mind that maybe the patch didn't work for some reason (again, I'm paranoid). The discs don't prompt for an update, so I was worried when the messages came to my Wii. Now I think I'll get back to debating the ethics of emulators and backup loaders.by lorddunlow - Homebrew Applications
I have the disc and online update blocks applied via StartPatch 4.2U (latest version on WiiBrew - don't remember the version number off the top of my head). I'm a paranoid kinda guy, so with the last update messages that came to the Wii I am worried. Does the online update patch block the update even if someone were to click on update Wii? Or should I have not even received those mesby lorddunlow - Homebrew Applications
I think wrapping a present is a lot of work. I hate wrapping presents. ;) I wasn't saying that the programming of the GUIs take work, but making a good one (with the tools others have programmed) takes some creativity and effort. I just don't think that the amount of work put into a project should matter in the debate over whether it contributes to piracy or not. My take on piby lorddunlow - Offtopic
Thanks for all the great discussion; many good points here. Arikado: In response to something you mentioned in the post you linked to, specifically that emulators are different from backup loaders because they allow playing games from older systems and therefore any piracy with these affects the company less because they aren't making as much money for the company as current systems, I woby lorddunlow - Offtopic
Those are very good counterpoints that I had not thought about. Thanks for your calm response. This is not my attempt to change the rules of the forum. I understand why this forum has the rules about not supporting backup loaders as they make piracy very easy. I just don't understand why discussion of emulators (for which playing pirated games is the most common use) is allowed. It justby lorddunlow - Offtopic
I would like to have a civil debate about use of hardware emulators (including the dreaded backup loaders). If the mods feel this is against the rules (I'm not going to discuss their actual use or support of them), then just close this topic, but don't ban me please. I just feel that this is a big sticking point in the Wii hacking community at large, especially this forum. I'lby lorddunlow - Offtopic
Ugh. I stay away due to aggravation with this board's rules and ridiculous logic loopholes for piracy, ROMs, etc, while it fully supports emulators which any gaming company would list as piracy (they even have a better case now with the advent of virtual console and similar on XBLA and PSN - since the games the emulators play can now be obtained through more official means), and the first tby lorddunlow - Getting Started
QuoteAxel I don't think he is that naive either, however, the forum has an eye catching, bold announcement with red letters that 'almost' doesnt pick up any attention, and it happens to include all those forbidden terms in its description ;) So I tend to believe that discussing about any of those is forbidden, but I don't think 'mentioning those words' is, sinceby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
Whew. I was hoping for this kind of discussion and not the whole community coming down on me. Magil, thanks for your response. That is probably what I'm going to do (have both HBC versions with some apps in IOS58 and some in IOS202). It's what I did when major changes occurred when 1.0.5 came along and I wasn't ready to commit. I really wish all of the devs would takeby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
I was just wondering if there are any solid facts about USB transfer speeds associated with IOS58 vs cIOS202. I've heard many people SAY that IOS58 has slower transfer speeds, with at least one post somewhere (I don't remember if it was here or WiiXplorer's google code issues page) stating actual speed differences (IOS58 half as fast as 202), but I don't know how those numberby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
Thanks to those who helped. It's not that I don't think I won't like it, it's just every update of any program introduces a few bugs, many of which will only affect a small percentage of users. Many times have I updated, say, an emulator only to have some glitch cause problems (which are usually fixed quickly). I just have taken the stance of if ain't broke, don'tby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
SifJar: I know that you guys get bombarded with lots of idiots who don't know what they're talking about, but this tone is what has made me read/contribute less to this board than I did several months ago (not that I contributed much, but I did read a lot). Does anyone know if there is any way to disable the update checks of various apps (esp. HBC). I am currently on HBC 1.0.6 and I am very happy with my current setup. I'm sure I will eventually update HBC and all of my apps, but I would rather do it when I want/need to rather than have to constantly decline the updates when I start up the HBC. It would be nice if TT (and the other developerby lorddunlow - Homebrew General
I finally installed Bootmii and backed up everything. I feel more comfortable updating now. One more question: If I install StartPatch and disable all updates and update checks, is there any reason to update my boot2 to v4 at this time? Games don't use boot2, right? Just let me know what the thoughts here are. By the way, now that I installed Bootmii I've played around with the nby lorddunlow - BootMii Beta
Thanks to all for the speedy and helpful answers. gameboy13: how does updating boot2 first help? This is one thing I don't understand about BootMii. I thought that BootMii replaces boot2. Apparently this is not how it works.by lorddunlow - BootMii Beta
I have not yet installed BootMii as boot2 (mostly because I've been too lazy to take my wii to my UPS or vice versa to avoid power loss and a possible brick), but I am now planning on doing so. I am currently on System Menu 3.3u (prior to the Oct 23 update) and I am running HBC 1.3. If I update with the HackMii installer to HBC 1.0.6, can I run the HackMii installer 0.3 and go back to HBC 1.0.3 without problems? Also, if I install BootMii to the newest version and let Nintendo update officially, will it still update boot2? Since I've updated to r77, I get a code dump anytime I try to copy from SD card to an SMB share. No problems going the other direction. I even reverted to r74 - same problem. Anybody have any ideas?by lorddunlow - Homebrew Applications
I definitely don't plan on updating through Nintendo due to the brick risk. I don't have need for SD features right now, but I anticipate I will in the future. I also would like to use StartPatch, if it is safe, so I think I am going to update to 4.1 manually. I would appreciate other options/opinions. First of all, I would like to thank all involved with Wii homebrew, as it has turned a game console which I would use occasionally for a new game into a miniature computer system that allows me to do many different and useful things from my bedroom. I've searched for a solution to my problem, but I've had no luck. I just recently updated to fce ultra gx 3.0.3 (as well as the new versions of snes9x and vbagx) and have set up the smb shares. The emulators see the ROMs on my shares, but will only load the ones that are zipped. I can just zip every single ROM that isn't already zipped, but that would take a while.
