It's always been my understanding that "static" means it only exists in this file, and "inline" means the code may be copied directly into the calling function. I'm likely to be completely wrong though. :Pby HyperHacker - Coding
So it sounds like he's saying he bought the channel, formatted the Wii, installed a pirate WAD of the same channel, and then discovered that it wouldn't let him re-download any of the other things he'd bought because of this. And something he did with the fish disc fixed it. (What does "install dev certs" do anyway? An alternate signing key?)by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
If it's designed with any sense at all, the very first thing it will do is install the recovery code. So you would have a window of a few microseconds, while that code is being written to flash, where your Wii will be hosed if the power is lost. After that it'd be possible to boot from SD to try again.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
I wonder if it's possible to load the Internet Channel and patch its file type handling to allow for downloading? As for Flash, is there a PPC version at all? If not then it might be difficult to get even a homebrew browser to support it.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
There are other Wiimote libraries, but I don't know of any that work very well. The protocol is very well documented though, so it's probably not difficult to write your own.by HyperHacker - Offtopic
...however, it does pretty much force you to update (not letting you use Live if you don't).by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
The HBC discs are fake-signed; "CIOS"/the menu patcher most likely just run an older version of IOS that has the signing bug. They have nothing to do with the Twilight Hack; that's only involved if you're using a hacked Zelda save file.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
The way I understood it, DVD drives can tell somehow (besides the BCA) whether a disc is pressed or burned, and consumer-grade equipment can't fool it. I might be wrong though. In any case, there are two different protections you need to get around to run homebrew from a disc: 1) DVD drive will not read burned discs. 2) Software will not load unsigned code. Modchips only get around #1.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
Open source might not be a good idea for an unfinished program that has the potential to brick Wiis. When it's finished, definitely.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General

The SD card probably has a corrupt filesystem or simply "burned out". This happened to me on the DS all the time, enough that I just stopped using DS homebrew because of the expense of replacing them. The same libFAT as was used on the DS was ported to Wii for SD support, as I've heard. I haven't used Wii homebrew enough to see if it has the same problems. To recover it, the best ideby HyperHacker - Offtopic
Would loading from a USB drive be faster? I wonder if something like the new Xbox update is feasible; load from a USB drive, but only if the disc is inserted. It kills the convenience factor, but would still reduce load time.by HyperHacker - The Junkyard
col70, RTFM; that has nothing to do with the update. You need to convert the programs to DOL files.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
So aside from a banner creator, maybe we'll see a banner rendering library that homebrew launchers can use? :-pby HyperHacker - Homebrew General
It's a copyright issue. Copying Nintendo's banner code to your own program violates their copyright on said code. The HBC authors made their own banner code without copying anything. Other channels haven't because it's very risky.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
QuoteDanielHuehoHmm, I always thought that any kind of NAND modification involved the fakesigning bug... Bléh, I hate to do mistakes :P.I thought it used a separate exploit which also was patched.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General

QuotebushingWhat does an exploit have to do with this? The exploit HBC9 uses to install a channel under IOS51? Nobody else can make a channel without it now. Not necessarily agreeing with Spoom, just clarifying.by HyperHacker - Homebrew General
QuoteTanstaaflAnd what happens if a disk comes along that has a system update on it, and we don't want to mess with GeckoOS to skip the update because we have no use for it otherwise? It won't affect anything you already have installed, but you won't be able to install anything new, and this only applies to the NAND. I don't think Nintendo even does try to defeat homebrew, so much as fix bugs. Even the anti-TP-hack seems like it could just be an effort to retroactively fix the bug, by ensuring the game never receives invalid data rather than patching the code that has the bug. Notice they haven't done anything to already-installed channels or WADs, legal or not. (And the update message even told youby HyperHacker - Feedback & Support
Hm, does boot2 keep running when the Wii is off?by HyperHacker - Software
Yeah, sounds like something broke in the disc drive. I doubt any homebrew or cheats had anything to do with it. I'd just call Nintendo and tell them it was working fine, then when you went to play Brawl it was no longer able to read any discs. Cleaning the laser might help, but opening it will void the warranty, so if you still have that, just send it in. (Though I find it very unlikely thatby HyperHacker - Homebrew General

Update to what? If those aren't powerful enough to run an OS alone, there's something wrong with the OS.by HyperHacker - Offtopic
